When he redirects the attack, can he make the attacker attack himself, or can that damage only be redirected to another character from the team.

He can make the attacker attack himself.

As an amusing anecdote; one time I targeted my son's Jar Jar with Shaak Ti JM. Jar Jar made the Bombad save and sent the attack back to her. Shaak rolled a crit and would have killed herself, but blocked it.

I think SignerJ is implying more that if Shak Ti is attacking herself with her own lightsaber, how does she block it?

I just imagine the episode of The Office where Dwight is fighting himself.

My favorite experience with Jar Jar making weird stuff happen is when he made my Mara Jade, Jedi attack herself, which meant she didn't get the +10 Damage from Lightsaber and that she could Evade the attack, since you don't count as adjacent to yourself. I just imagine her holding the blaster pointing towards herself and pulling the trigger, but then dodging out of the way.

I visualize "Blazing Saddles" when Clevon Little is holding the gun to his head and taking himself hostage.

I think Jar Jar was Nickname's breaking point. I am sure that mini caused him cirrhosis.

My first (and worst) Jar Jar experience was at GenCon during the KotOR booster tourny. JJ made Bomnad save vs Darth Vader, Scourge of the Jedi, who hit himself, had to roll his Djem So save, he made it. The judge ruled that "can means must" in SWM and therefore Vader, upon making his DS save, had to attack himself again. He hit and at that point, shaking my head, I left. CAN does not always mean MUST

Too be fair, the Djem So ruling that the attack was optional didn't come till later. Djem So is a slight discrepancy with how we interpret can/may in the game.

Counterattack uses the 'it can' wording as well.

As does "attack of opportunity".
