We played a three player free for all on the ruined base map last night. After the disaster of having someone get Exar Kun in a booster draft our las play session, we decided to move on and construct our own squads (100 points for now). We played faction pure Rebels, Empire, Fringe. The squad I used is below:

Empire:
Thrawn
Dark Trooper, Phase III
Noghri Bodyguard
Snowtrooper
Stormtrooper x2
Imperial Dignitary

I found out too late in the game how to effectively utilize Thrawn's swap ability. The Dignitary was added as moving cover but then I realized I could march straight up unharmed to Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter and then swap him with the Noghri. I won initiative and was able to get 30 points of damage against him. My opponent realized what was happening and lucky for him I rolled a 1 for initiative. His first activation was to take down Thrawn (who by that point was down to 40 HP). His Twin Attack took him down. This was a neat squad, although I think I'd look for a different heavy hitter than the Dark Trooper so he could benefit from Thawn's Attack and Defense boosts. My opponents were smart enough not to clump pieces and it rendered missiles nearly useless. Perhaps Mara Jade, Emperor's Hand and another Stormie? Blaster Barrage looks neat against grunt armies and an extra Stormie could always be useful to combine fire and such.

I'd actually suggest dropping the Snowtrooper and Dark Trooper for Arica, and then dropping the two Stormtroopers for more Imperial Dignitaries. The diplomats can attack, and if you position them correctly, you can build a Diplomat wall that spans an entire hallway. You can then position Arica seven squares behind the diplomat wall, so she can attack without being attacked (due to Sniper and Stealth, respectively). Her blaster barrage is invaluable, especially at the beginning of a round (which you'll get, thanks to Master Tactician.) And you can use Swap to get the Noghri where it is needed.

I don't have Arica, but know that is a Mara Jade alias. I'll have to track her down. I would love some more Dignitaries! I just got one in a trade but would definitely take some more. If he attacks, does he lose Diplomat? Once Thrawn was gone, I just started attacking with him knowing I was nearing defeat.

The fun part is, no, he doesn't lose Diplomat.

As for Arica -- she's a really good piece. An auto-include in most of my Imperial squads. Cunning, Sniper, Stealth, Blaster Barrage, and Twin make her usable in almost any situation.

It's pretty hard to make Imperials work at 100 - 150 is better, and 200 is optimal. If you're playing Thrawn, you probably need to use Mas Amedda to take advantage of board wide swap. By the time you get Thrawn and Mas, it either costs 40 or 45 points, depending on which Thrawn you use, and there's not enough room for enough door control and attackers.

By the time I started playing almost 2 and a half years ago the Black and Blue squads already seemed to have fallen out of vogue in favor of the Stealth and Blue squads.

The Black and Blue refers to Vader (black) and Thrawn (blue). The most popular typically used Lord Vader from Bounty Hunters and Thrawn (Mith'raw'narudo) from Imperial Entanglements. With Thrawn, Mas and Lord Vader you have used up 111 of your 200 points. Lobot is pretty common too to customize Reinforcements against what your opponent is running. Rodian Brutes are popular swap fodder at 3 points plus having stable footing. Amanin Scouts are great to move a great distance to set up a big swap. Activation control is quite important as well and Admiral Ozzel is the most popular in most cases (though the Tarkin from Rebel Storm has his place too).

The gist is to out-activate your opponent, set up the swap for Lord Vader so that he gets Opportunist from Thrawn, spend a force for Lightsaber Assault allowing you to make up to 4 attacks against 1 enemy, and also spending a force for Sith Rage meaning you can do up to 160 damage in your turn. Or instead of Sith Rage you could go with Overwhelming Force against someone like GOWK.

The Stealth and Blue variants drop Vader and add in Arica and/or Cad Bane for lots of swapping and shooting.

Since Admiral Gillad Pellaeon was released in DotF he has become a near staple in a large number of Imperial squads. Being able to shoot out of the Ysilamiri bubble for force immune shots is very strong.

Mind blown Scared

I think our next games will be 100 point squads and we will switch factions up each game. Once we've seen more and more pieces see play, we will move on to the larger formats.
