I looked through pages of forums but couldn't this topic, and it has been on my mind pretty heavily after using Mandalorians for the first time. I walked all over an Imperial team with my Mandos and every figure seemed to have a huge damage output for the cost. Are Mandalorians the best faction? (They seemed pretty overpowered)

In a word, no, the V-sets (if you aren't aware of them yet defiantly look in to them) have a revolutionized the game and done its very best to balance everything out. I don't get any competitive play and I know there are some weight in different factions but now I dont think anything is the best. Rebels once were, but not any more.

for the most part the Factions are all pretty Balanced at this point in one way or another. Depending on what kind of Imperial squad you found you may actually have had a higher damage output, which is not uncommon depending on the mando squad. Generally most mando squads have a high amount of attacks and therefor a high damage amount. Generally speaking though for the most part they are still less powerful than some of the bigger factions, as are Vong at this point also. Though they can do well against some squads they don't hold up in a lot of critical areas (IE: Vong dont have ranged attackers usually, and Mandos tend to have less health with the exception of mandalores)

I'd say, roughly, the really strong factions (a variety of top tier squads available) are: Imperial, Separatist, Republic
The good factions (at least one squad type that's really good) are: Old Republic, Sith, New Republic, Mandalorian
And the not quite there factions are: Rebels, Yuuzhan Vong
What squad were you using, and what were you playing against? Imperials can be very strong, but they require a lot of skill, forward planning, and patience to play effectively (which is why I don't play them much!). Some strong Imperial squads function by having one big damage dealer, like Cad Bane with Opportunist, who waits until you're all finished, then hits you for 120 damage which is hard to stop. In general, Imperial squads rely on tech, and don't really do well at all-in brawls.
I think Mandos have only really got top drawer in the last couple of v-sets - Scouts have always been good, but they're better now they have other options like Kelborn, Mandalore the Vindicated, and Fenn Shysa.

Imps are best faction in the game, whoever you played did not know what they were doing. New Republic are also really strong, as well as Sith, Seps. Mandos are good, but no way they should just walk all over imps.
I agree with TheHutts, Rebels and Vong just not quite there with the rest of the factions.

They did win the big Saturday Gencon Tourney in 2006 which is before it was technically the champs.

Anyone who plays me regularly knows I like to run Imperials. While I think overall Imperials are a stronger faction than the Mandalorians, the current popular Mando builds give me difficulties...I at least have to adjust my tactics against them and, against some of the better players I've faced running them (like Thereisnotry) I have not had favorable results.

I went 3-1 with Mandos at the Vassal Regional recently, but that event had only 5 people. My only loss was to another Mando squad (in the semi-finals), which went on to win it.
Now that they have Kelborn, the Mandos have a LOT more tactical and squad-building options than they did before. The Imperial Cad Bane squads will have a hard time shooting the Cloaked Mandos sitting in gambit; the key will be dropping MtVindicated to remove their disruptive, so that Cad can then base the cloaked pieces at the end of the round and then swap to safety at the start of the next round; until MtV dies, Cad is at a severe disadvantage. And don't forget that Kelborn gives good movement options before the round, which makes planning even harder for the Imperial player.
Mandos have taken a huge step forward with Kelborn. They're not top-of-the-heap yet, but they are certainly in the mix.

I would say Republic since they are the most Versatile. They have definitely received a lot of love from both the V-Set guys and WotC.

I say Imperial, Republic, C.I.S are the best especially when they are augmented with some beastly fringe pieces. Sith, Mandos, and New Republic are really good but there just not quite as good as the top 3. Vong, Rebels and Old republic in MY OPINION are the weakest factions.

I'd say that this type of squad is very good for Old Republic (originally by Weeks) - Bastila shutting down CEs, two really good shooters, one tough melee piece, and a good CE from the OR Senator. It can foot it with the big boys. --S&V Old Republic-- 37 Satele Shan 36 Atton "Jaq" Rand 33 Bastila Shan, Jedi Master 29 Carth Onasi, Old Republic Soldier 27 Lobot 18 Klatooinian Captain 14 Old Republic Senator 6 Mouse Droid x2 (200pts. 9 activations)

That is a solid squad. I'm curious if it can still hold its own in the current meta.

Old Republic did well at GenCon last year, but haven't seen much action in Regionals this year, for no apparent reason. I do think it might struggle against a well run Stealth and Blue, as Ysalamari is tough for it (among other things Satele loses Force Absorb) but it should do well against most other popular squads.
