If a 1 is rolled on an attack and the attacker has damage reduction 10, does it take no damage?

A 1 is just an automiss you don't take any damage from it.

I was told that a rolled 1 does ten damage to the attacker? Is that false?

That is false. A 1 is an auto-miss, just like a 20 is an auto-hit (and a critical).

Thanks. Must have been a house rule. A critical 20 doubling damage must have inspired a friend of mine to think a 1 did some sort of opposite.

There are a lot of other gaming systems where Crit Misses do indeed hurt you, this just isn't one of them.
