THere has been a lot of talk about Epic Formats recently, and it has got me thinking. What rules do you prefer to play with for epic format?
1 What point Limit
2 is an epic Required?
3 do you limit Activations? if so how many
4 Do you Limit Commander Effects? If so How Many
5 What other Special Rules do you use?
Here are my Normal Preferences:
1 400-500 Points
2 1 Epic Required but multiple possible if playing 400+ points. LEss than thati dont think an epic should be required but optional.
3 Depending on point cost 18(500), 14(400), 12(300-350)
4 at 500 a 4 commander limit, 400 or less 3 commander limit
5 we have always had a very limited map selection

usual format is:
500 pnts (max)
16 activations (max)
1 or more Epic figures
sometimes the TO will add other restrictions

Sometimes there's a cap on the number of Commanders allowed.
Sometimes an Epic is required, but sometimes not. Some factions (Mandos, Vong) will always take an epic, while other factions (Republic, Separatist) might have squad options that do better without an epic.

GenCon 2012 ran the perfect format!
500pt Max
16 acts max
1 or more Epics
1 and a half hour rnds
Gambit= 25pt min cost character in gambit for 25 pts
No activation modifiers ( Dodonna, San Hill, etc. )
No Disentegrations
Everyone that played had fun and it was a great tourney. The prob was that it was on Sunday, so the turnout was low.
I love the Epic format. The guys and I at my LGS, play almost every week with Epics. They are super fun and make for excellent, balanced, games.
Separatists won the 500pt Epic tournament, at GenCon in 2012! So, I don't know why everyone is complaining about Bastilla, or the Vong, or Mandos????????
Please bring the Epic Format back to GenCon!!!!!!!!!!!
