Hey guys Deathwielded here,
I was looking at Lord Krayt and was wondering how to make an effective squad with him. I have heard that he has seen some tournament play but I can't see why.
Could you guys give me some suggestions on how to use him effectively?

Here is my critique of him:
The new Krayt has improved stats (highest base defense and +17 attack) 130 with VCA6 can give him some longevity. Transfer Essence with MotF2 can have him swap in and out in the same turn, plus if he swaps with a Sith Recruit that activates their Self Destruct. Triple Attack with Sith Rage and Advantageous Attack means he can pump out 120 damage pretty easily. His CE is fitting since because of his high cost you will need some act control.

I think he definitely needs Renewal 2 though, since he will burn through those FP's FAST! His cost should have been more than enough reason to have it IMO. Essence of Life seems to compound this problem because for it to be effective he would need to keep some fp's in reserve.
Recovery 60 is nice as it could increase his chances of surviving, but since it replaces his turn it might not get to see to much use. (unless he can use Transfer Essence on the same turn but I doubt he can)
Affinity for Non-unique Imps works Flavor wise but I can't think of who you could add from the Imps to benefit his squad. I think for the cost he could have used some more attacks and perhaps a second CE to benefit his squad. As is I would've costed him 15-20 less in my opinion.

I can see that the intent was to match him up with GMLS (since they are the only non-epic characters that cost over 100) but GMLS atleast has a better CE more damage output (via Djem so Mastery) and better defense IMO. Could you guys help me see some more value in him?

P.S I'm not bashing the V-set teams. I think they are doing an awesome job!ThumbsUp (especially with these last 2 sets) however there has been some hiccups which are to be expected.

The squad that made the top 8 at GenCon with him had Darth Revan Sith Lord, Krayt, and filler. I never would have thought of pairing him with Revan, but it seems really smart now I think about it - he gets a huge range of where he can get to.

Krayt's a really interesting piece - he has some pretty obvious weaknesses, but Transfer Essence with MOTF2 is really powerful, and so is the fact that he can get to 90 or 120 damage without help. It means he can put 120 damage on something, then get away in the same phase without being touched in return. I would have been tempted to give him Renewal 2, or Brutal Strike, or something to power him up a level, but even though he has some weaknesses, he also has some really unique strengths that make him a potential nuisance for a lot of squads. He's never going to win a one on one duel with GMLS - GMLS is all about good stats and lots of attacks - but I'd actually say that Lord Krayt is the better piece for a lot of matchups.

I'm pretty sure you can use Transfer Essence on the same turn as Recovery. Transfer Essence is a '0 time' ability. It doesn't replace turn or attacks. You can ask in Rules to be sure, though.

Thats not a bad idea with Revan he can almost always use his advantageous attack and can swap with Revan for free. (at the end of Revans turn) Revan could also benefit from Essence of life. (since he may be able to re-roll twice) My concern with that type of squad is you won't have much room at all for Fodder. (24 points remaining)
