Not sure where to actually ask this, but what if we moved the champs to Thursday for Gencon in order to allow people the freedom of Fri and Sat to play other games that might be holding their champs on one of those days?
This would move the Jedi Challenge to Friday (and it would also probably combine up with the Sith trials) to make 4 events at 3 rounds each to determine the overall Jedi Challenge winner.
Leaving Saturday for some of the more fun events and events that are more beginner friendly.
Sunday would still be saved for the sealed (although we could move sealed back to Saturday).
For those of you who attended Gencon, or who plan to in 2014, thoughts?

For me, all you will do is determine which day (Thursday or Friday) i do the dealer hall thing. This year it was Thursday. If the champs move to Thursday, i'll deal with the Hall on Friday.

How about following the Swiss rounds, take a short break for food and right into the top eight rounds.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend GC 2014, but if I can, I'd kinda like to have the whole Champs done in one day...that allows me to schedule other events more confidently. As for the day, I think Thursday would be fine too. I've often used the Jedi Challenge events as preparation/practice for the Championship, but I don't think it would be a huge loss to lose that practice time. You either know your squad by that point or you don't. I also like the idea of letting the JC be a 4-event combo (of 3-round events), assuming that all the events are interesting/viable/worthwhile.

I'd like to play in the Champs again...or more likely, judge them. On the years it interferes with school,(August teens) I'd have a hard time making Thursday, but I plan on taking at least Friday off from now on.

I think you will be able to play, as I think I will likely judge. I might as well, since the questions will go to me anyway. lol

well the idea is to make the champs all in one day (so people can actually watch the T8 if they want) and doing it on Thurs allows for people to be able to plan the rest of their time accordingly as most people don't do a late Thurs event that they would have to cancel or work around if they made T8. I don't think we need matches at 230AM again if we can help it.
Also moving JC to Friday and making most other events 3 rounds means we could pick up some players who just want to play in some of the other events. Also it sounds like we need to make the JC events somewhat less exotic in what they actually involve.

Well, we wrapped up Swiss at around 5, 5:30. An hour, hour half for dinner/break. I have a hard time seeing it go past midnight.

I can play either Thursday or Friday, but I would rather see us accommodate people like Brad who can't play Thursday than accommodate those who just want to watch the matches.

After marinating on this i really find that i like this idea, though i would make sure that it wont limit a large group of people. It would allow more people to play in the longer tournaments too without being overly exhausted.

My only concern is that we don't know if FFG will change their tournaments around. Really, X-wing is the only that drains us of players, but if they do a change, sort of have to move around, as I do not like the chances of us winning vs X-wing.

I have never attended Gen Con but am strongly considering it for next year. That being said I would be massively dissapointed if the SWM champs would conflict with X-wing as I would want to play both.

I don't think there is any way to predict when the FFG X wing tourney will take place. I bet even FFG does not know. I do think Thursday is very unlikely for X wing. Saturday is the largest draw for the con.

Meaning there will be a Thu warm up tourney with the NA champs being held again on Saturday. I just can't see them scheduling it on Friday and missing the Opp to load up on players. They expanded the field to 100 and only 84 players ended up competing but I echo Shawn's thoughts about not wanting to miss either event.

I'm in the same boat as Brad, if it's our first day of school I wouldn't be able to attend Thursday.
