What counts as adjacent for Melee Attacks, AoO, Grenades, and Etc...? The rulebook I have doesn't make it very clear, is it all 8 squares around a square (sides and corners) or is it only the 4 on the edge of it (just sides)?

From what I've always understood, you are adjacent to a character if you are in a square touching theirs, both to the side and diagonal.

This can get complicated, due to things like Melee Reach 2. For the most part you have to be in an adjacent square. Melee reach 2 is different you can be up to 2 squares away, you are still considered adjacent for that round only. so you can attack from two squares away and the character you attacked is also considered adjacent for SA's such as Riposte. After you have finished that round you go back too being two squares away, so unless the mini you attacked has melee reach 2 or a ranged attack he would have to move 1 square to become adjacent to attack you back or rather that same mini back. Same would apply for melee reach 3 and so on.
I am sure other members who have better grammar than I can write this up better than I have, but hopefully you can understand what I have written here.
Also for more info on what is adjacent, there is another thread on here called "melee reach 2 and evade question". you might also benefit from reading that.

Thanks for clearing this up for me, so corner squares count as adjacent.
