1) If there are 2 enemies an exact, equal distance from a shooter, but 1 has cover and 1 does not, can the attacker choose either target?
2) Same question, but lets make the 1 without cover further away than the 1 with cover.

1) You may choose. Both are same distance.
2) You may choose. Uncovered targets are at your choice. If a target hes cover, and no stealth or cloaked, it must be the nearest to target it.

Simple rule (before special abilities come into play) is that you can target an enemy if:
* the enemy has no cover OR * the enemy has cover but is the nearest enemy (tied for nearest is fine)
** But note that adjacency trumps... if you have an enemy adjacent then you cannot target a non-adjacent enemy.
===
Then the abilities complicate things...
So if an enemy has cover and is not the nearest enemy you cannot target it. A couple ways to get around that: * Accurate Shot is the most common one, and it says that the target doesn't have to be the nearest enemy. So it basically removes the requirement that the enemy is the nearest enemy. * Several other abilities (e.g. Lightsaber Throw 5) ignore cover for targeting. So it basically removes the target's cover.
Stealth makes an enemy 'not the nearest enemy' if it has cover and is more than 6 squares away. Accurate Shot says, "I don't care if you're the nearest enemy," so it gets around Stealth.
Super-stealth and Cloaked flatly state that the character cannot be targeted by non-adjacent enemies at all if it has cover. Accurate Shot can't get around that, but the abilities that ignore cover do since cover is a requirement to benefit from Super-Stealth or Cloaked.

This appears to say to me that you MUST target an enemy without cover if they are the closet enemy, correct?

O.k...just to clarify...if they are equal distance from the attacker, 1 with cover and 1 without cover, you can attack either enemy, correct?

Thank-you to everyone for your patience with me. I'm looking at you FlyingArrow and juice man ;) I think I'm at the point were I'm asking questions I asked a few weeks ago again or I'm seeing some abilities more clearly now after playing for a while.

We've all been there, or are still there, or both.

I think most weeks I walk away and realize after the game that I 'cheated' accidentally, though usually because I forgot some minor rule that would not have affected the game at all.
The most egregious, though, was in a regional competition against emtjoe where my opponent's Advanced Battle Meditation was on and I used Darth Revan, Sith Lord to swap in to kill her. On the way home... like 4 hours later it hit me... I wasn't allowed to use the swap CE because ABM was on! In my mind I had it all planned out beforehand to do the swap with the first activation of round 2, before ABM was on. But then he turned it on in round 1. It didn't occur to me that it had wrecked my plans and he didn't catch it either. And I didn't notice until I was replaying the game in my mind hours later.
