Another big reason Veers (and to some extent Tarkin) weren't that great until later in the game was simply the move to 200pts. It's now more viable to fit them in your squad.
(And despite what people think - Veers sucked at 100, and was not great at 150. Just look at the regional winning and GenCon top 8 squads 2006-2009. None have veers.)

Regionals didn't start until 2009, right? So they were 150 points in 2009 and 200 in 2010. I count 10 or 12 (depending on if you count stormies as 1 or 3)

There are also plenty of others that are still playable but not top tier

^Since it goes up to 60, stormies have to be counted full then, so I would say 3.
