I cant get VASSAL to recognize my SWminis file or the v-set file some one help please

The files are in a compressed format to save space and download time.
Did you extract the actual files from the downloaded files? (you need WinRar or 7-Zip (both free) or a similar program to extract them)
You should have a SWMinis.vmod file in the main Vassal program folder,
and a SWM_ext folder inside the main Vassal folder with a Virtual Sets.mdx file in it.
Should be good to go once you reach that point.

C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Vassal would be my 1st guess assuming a windows machine

ok found the file but the swm folder is not in there

Not sure what file are you referring to. The SWMinis.vmod file goes in the same folder where Vassal.exe is located. In that same folder, make a new folder named SWM_extCopy the Virtual Sets.mdx file into the SWMinis_ext folder.
