I am looking for a list of the "top" swm maps. Tournament approved, most popular for game play or just plain fun maps are what I am looking for. After I get some feedback, I'll go on ebay and start to buy them unless someone recommends a better website to buy them at. Thanks.

I'm just re-posting my commercial from this thread:
http://www.bloomilk.com/Forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=13150

I say ArmoredCartographers' Map Pack 4 is the best buy around for several reasons...

* It's "Strongholds and Fortresses". So each place represents the sort of place where a battle would naturally take place.
* The layouts of the maps are for the most part great for skirmishes. The 'restricted' list is a list of maps that are most balanced for skirmish play. Some maps are unbalanced either left/right where one side gets a strong advantage. Others are unbalanced in that a particular squad type gets a very strong advantage (such as shooters or IG Lancer squads, etc.). 5 maps out of 8 are on that restricted list.
* The variety. Map Pack 3 was cool for having 4 maps that could be laid out for a huge massive battle, but it meant that 4 of the maps were visually very similar, whereas here all 8 are completely different.
* The artwork. Map Packs 1 and 2 are great, too, but the artwork stepped up considerably between Map Pack 2 and Map Pack 4. (Of course, you can't find map packs 1 and 2 anywhere now anyway.)
* The price. Christopher West's maps are great, too, but the prices for his maps tend to be quite a bit more.

So based on all that, Map Pack 4 should be anyone's first map purchase for Star Wars Minis maps.

BUT... as you'll see if you follow the link, it is currently out of print and won't be back at Miniature Market for another few weeks or even a couple of months. In the meantime, Attack on Endor is the second best map purchase... and that one has the bonus of coming with an AT-ST.
===
EDIT: JC posted below that it will be back in stock in a week or so.

We are currently running a fundraising campaign to publish a new map pack, although we didn't emphasize competetive play as much as we did on map pack 4, all the maps are pretty solid for gameplay and I would imagine that they will atleast get put on the standard play lists

except for the Manaan map I'm working on. If that doesn't make the restricted list, I will never make another map in my life. I haven't shown that one to you guys yet, but I think it's my probably my best layout.

Anyway the new map pack will feature 6 double sided maps, 12 maps total.

Map Pack 4 will be back on shelves at minature market this week, so as soon as I have a link for that I'll post it.

1) Sounds great! So...are "map packs" how WOTC used to release maps or is that how maps are now released by individual swm lovers like jedicartographer?

2) Or...is map pack 4 (for example) a re-creation by jedicartographer of previous SWM map packs?

3) I assume restricted means good or allowed for tournament play?

4) I definitely want Map packs 4 and 5.

5) The only real maps I have are the Endor 2 pack because it came with an AT-ST (are all four sides of those maps restricted for tournament play?). I laminated those, but will buy another one to have two maps I can fold for easy transport.

WotC released maps in packs under various names:

There are the Rebel Storm, Clone Strike, and Clone Wars "Starter Packs". They come with 1 or 2 maps each.

There are the Clone Wars Battles, Attack on Endor, and Hoth "Scenario Packs". They come with 2 or 4 maps each. (Endor has 4.)

There are the Clone Wars "Map Packs". There are 3 of them, and they have 2 maps each.

There were the Rebel Storm, Clone Strike, and Revenge of the Sith "Ultimate Missions" books. These are pretty lengthy scenario books that each have 2 maps.

===

After WotC finished producing maps, the WotC map creator (Christopher West, bloomilk user Mapmaker), continued creating maps at mapsofmastery.com. His maps have been released packs of 2 (i.e. one piece of paper, double-sided for 2 maps). He's released close to 20 maps that way.

Matt Francella (Bloomilk user JediCartographer) is the other main map creator. If you see AdventurersAtlas, or ArmoredCartographers, those terms also refer to the same group of maps. He has released 4 map packs of various sizes, and is about to release the 5th. Map Pack 1 (6 maps), Map Pack 2 (8 maps), and Map Pack 3 (8 maps) are all out of print. Map Pack 4 (8 maps) is about to be reprinted. Map Pack 5 (12! maps) is a Kickstarter option right now. He also released 8 other maps in individual pairs. (2 of those 8 maps are reprints from Map Packs 1 and 2.)

Restricted means they are approved for tournament play. All of the maps from Attack on Endor except the Endor map itself have at one time been on the Restricted list. Not all are there now, but I think that is more for space reasons than for anything being wrong with the map.

Thanks for the info. Is there a link to all SWM maps ever created and/or a restricted list?

Sorry - I thought you would have had this list already. This is a pretty amazing resource:

Oh! And as long as we're talking about maps, there are the rare maps, which are not included in that PDF...

The WotC promotional posters for Legacy of the Force and Knights of the Republic had maps on the back. Ossus Landing Platform for Legacy and Taris Undercity for KotOR. And Jedi Cartographer released a Sith Temple map, of which only about 25 were printed. Map Pack 5 looks like it will have a similar super-limited map, where only 25 will be printed. And 20 of those are already sold.

Well I've got a couple copies I can sell ya, the only problem is they are unfolded. I'd have to ship them in a tube. You can either wait until miniature market re stocks, or get hold of me here and I'll sell you the unfolded ones.

How much with shipping? Unfolded would be fine, because I am going to laminate them anyways. What copies do you have or is it the complete Map Pack 4 series?

The map pack is self is 20 dollars, but I'll have to go to the post office, buy a tube, and get them packaged nice, so I'd add another 10 dollars for that. so 30 dollars total.

Just found a decent deal browsing around: For those who need or want more of the Clone Wars map packs, Cool Stuff Inc. is selling them as a bundle for $5. That's less than a dollar per map!
