Hey all, harryg here reviewing the Advanced Dwarf Spider Droid. Again, feel free to add your own opinions. Here are his stats:
A-DSD Advanced Dwarf Spider Droid
Cost: 21 Separatist Large Base Recommended Mini: Dwarf Spider Droid
HP: 60
Defense: 16
Attack: 10
Damage: 30
Special Abilities:

Droid (Immune to critical hits; not subject to commander effects)
Damage Reduction 10 (Whenever this character takes damage, reduce the damage dealt by 10. Attacks with lightsabers ignore this special ability.)
Improved Missiles 20 (Replaces attacks, sight: 20 damage to target and to each character adjacent to that target; save 16)
Ion Shielding (Can ignore special abilities that affect only nonliving targets.)
Self-Destruct 10 (When this character is defeated, each adjacent character takes 10 damage)
Single-Shot Blaster (This character cannot gain Twin Attack)
Splash 10 (If this character's attack hits, all characters adjacent to the target take 10 damage; save 11. If the attack misses, the target and all adjacent characters take 10 damage; save 11.)
Stable Footing (Not slowed by difficult terrain or low objects)

In terms of stats, pretty good all around, nothing really jumping out except for the Damage 30 which is awesome. Droid is obvious, and Damage Reduction 10 helps boost his survivability overall. Improved Missiles 20 is basically a harder to avoid Missiles 20, which is really good against any enemies that have high defenses, or a group of enemies. Ion Shielding, which makes him immune to Ion Gun, Droid Hunter and the like, is another nice touch. Self-Destruct 10 is kind of insignificant. If a melee piece kills you, it takes 10 damage. Whoopee. Splash 10 is another good crowd-control option. Stable Footing can help with charging into gambit and then using either missiles or splash damage to kill the opponents grunts sent into the gambit zone. Single-Shot Blaster is a pretty big detriment, making you think outside the box instead of turning to GGDAC or Whorm. But why think outside the box when you could say inside of it with, say, a B3? Well, with grievous scourge he is a 14 attack for 30 damage twice. With Gha Nackt, they are twenty points, allowing them to be brought in through wat tambour techno union foremans reserves. Severance tann doesn't reAlly help them, although if you're already running a squad with her and you hit reserves from maybe tambor, accurate shot improved missiles can be very handy. All in all, not being huge they aren't very helpful to sevrannce. But with the previously mentioned grievous scourge, battle droid officer and a super battle droid commander, they are a 22 for 30 twice standing still. With wat tambour and gha nackt, there is lots of repair to keep them alive and they can easily hold down a tight hallway or similar area. In conclusion, the A-DSD is a droid who has a lot of potential, even if it doesn't fall in the same boat as most Separatist droids. I rate it a 7/10.

I too find this one hard to build around. It's got great stats, and the Improved Missiles are awesome. But to REALLY make it effective, it's hard to build around. Another 7... Pretty good, but tough enough to use that it isn't really top-tier at this point.

Stable Footing (Not slowed by Difficult Terrain)

Let me start off by saying that my over arching opionion is that the V-Set designers should have gone bigger with this piece. I think it should have been a huge (Giant Crab Droid anyone?), with at least 100 Health the defense and attack are fine as it was a BIG droid and it wasn't particularily accurate. Single Shot blaster is a bummer but it can be subverted. Stable footing is a given as are Splash 10 and SelfDestruct. Missiles is nice and work well. Damage Reduction 10 is good but like I said I think it should have 100 HP so if it had that I'd make it Damage Reduction 20 but as is it works. Ion Shields baffles me because in Republic Commando it was vulnerable to EMP grenades (unless i'm way off base on this) so i'm not a fan it's inclusion but I understand the intention behind it's inclusion.Recommended Team Mates: Commando Droid Captain for doiuble Attack and a Battle Droid Officer for the +4 attack or Use Grievous Supreme Commander for both in one, I'd also use a Bodyguard droid to help keep this thing standing a little longer. Honestly in summary the ASD Advanced Dwarf Spider Droid is underwhelming in my opinion and I really only see it being viable as a turret figure who doesn't move and picks off scrubs and grunts although this may be because I expected something grander and more potent. 5.5/10

I built a squad using this piece. Actually it used two of them and a geonosis overseer. So you can get double, which is not effected by single shot blaster. Then you run the Emperor and pawn them. Since they have the shields they take no damage. You then have to to fill in the rest of the squad, but that was the combo that i found effective playing this piece. You have to think outside the box a bit and see what little used CE are out there that make pieces better.

I think the rest of the squad would have contained a BDO maybe whorm, gha nackt and some ig 86s. I would have to go back and look at my paper work to say for sure.

I played this squad a few times,

--Annoying Glob Flies--
55 Sev'rance Tann
40 A-DSD Advanced Dwarf Spider Droid x2
12 Gha Nachkt
10 San Hill
8 Battle Droid Officer
49 B2 Super Battle Droid x7
7 R5 Astromech Droid
7 R7 Astromech Droid
12 Ugnaught Demolitionist x4
(200pts. 19 activations)

The B2s provided interference to give the A-DSD ADSDs time to acctualy do some damage. The best part was how long the little B2s lasted, and seeing my opponents' faces Confused when telling them thier 30 damage hit did not kill it. This was built more for missle use than shooting. Sadly it can't last vs good shooters or beatsticks.

I think the benefits Sev'rance Tann brings to the A-DSD have been underrated. She gives it Advanced Shields 1 plus if she is adjacent it basically gains Accurate shot with it's Improved Missiles! ?Tough to kill and can bring out good damage to single enemies or swarms. Gha will help lower their cost plus keep them alive longer by repairing them. (making that 60hp with DR10 plus AS1 last a long time. tambor might be a good choice so as to bring in reserves as well as keeping them working with Repair.
Here is the only squad I made with it Shields Up! I havn't used it yet and I probably can make it better now that I think about it.
