I love risky squads, but that goes mostly goes for fun play. For example, in a squad of Lucien JM, Jedi Exile Hero, Kryndra, Revanchist, and Bastilla, would you ever use a full HP Lucien to move 8 (speed 8) and Dispassionate Killer for +19/+23 attack and 40/50 Damage Triple (Revanchist gives Ambush)? Since Kryndra gives Lucien Mettle, he could roll 3 times (MOTF 2) needing only one "7" to avoid dying at the end. but there's still always a small chance you might die, and there goes any shot at winning... I would say it would be worth it assuming you were facing had a 50 point beatstick w/ 110-130 HP you needed to take care of. what do you think? So I would say I would be a 7 all or nothing on the 1-10 scale. Risky tactics just makes games so much more interesting!

Yeah I'm a risky player like that. I've done that 2 or 3 times now with Ferus and DT, and twice with Dass Jennir. I failed 2/3 Ferus saves and lost him, but then I didn't lose Dass.

I'm a fairly aggressive player. Over time I have started to make some more conservative plays rather than riskier ones. I'm still probably at least a 6 or 7.

It depends on the situation. If I'm losing, I'll play very risky, because that's often what's needed to turn the tables. When I'm winning, I won't chicken out, but I won't take foolish risks either. I generally try to put myself in a position where I won't live or die on the results of a single die roll. Sometimes that's all you got, so you go with it. But if it's a regular pattern, then there could be something you need to improve.

I'm usually a pretty slow player, so I tend to make risky moves to speed things up. I'll give myself a 6.

I'm not that risky. I would say a 2. I like to mix it up sometimes.

I would say that on a scale of 1-10 I am right at 9. I always take risks and look at the game in terms of winning right here or losing right here and let the dice fall where they may. It makes games quicker, and to me a lot funner., although when it does not work out it can be frustrating lol.

At the start of a game I am very slow and cautious, but by the end I am doing so many things that just should result in me dying but don't. I probably go from a 4 to a 9.

I'm not entirely sure. Based on my last couple of games, I'd say around a 7 or 8. Maybe a little higher.

I'm pretty risky, but I'm also a stats nerd, so I take calculated risks. A good example of this was my round 1 game against thereisnotry at the 2011 GenCon Championship. We were both playing Solo Charge, and round 1 I had a chance to levitate my Mara Jade far up the map, then have her use a FP to move and get to his Ganner, possibly dropping 40 on him. That put me in the position of if I win init I can go kill his Mara with my Mara, and his Anakin was pretty far away, so my Mara would likely even survive the round and put me in great position. If he wins init and kills my Mara, I can use my Han to finish off his Ganner and then also lob my Anakin in to do a very early UtF. Basically, it was a win-win, assuming my Mara could drop some early damage on Ganner. Even if I failed that, if I win init I still get to likely kill his Mara. Even if I failed to drop damage on Ganner, AND lost init, I had the chance for my Mara to survive from his and I kill his Ganner instead of his Mara, which isn't a bad trade, especially considering how his Anakin was positioned.

Anyway, I figured all that out and went for the move. My Mara wound up missing both shots, I lost init, and his Han hit both of his shots on my Mara making it more likely that his Mara killed mine. That basically lost the game for me, so it was a very risky move, but the odds were well in my favor that at worst we would trade pieces, and at best I decimate his squad.

So I would say I'm an 8 or 9 out of 10. I don't take stupid risks, and make sure I have backup plans in case things go wrong, but if I see the odds in my favor, even if the downside of the risk is very large, I'll usually take the risk. I also just like to get the game going very quickly and often start attacking in round 1 if I can, partially because a lot of players don't and it has them start playing off their back foot if they weren't planning on engaging that quickly.

I was wondering how long it was going to take to see Echo throw around that he won the 2011 Gencon Championship.

Actually I won the 2010 championship; 2011 I got... 15th I think. Something like that. I lost that game against Trevor and another one or two along the way.

I must admit, I stopped reading your initial post past stat nerd. If you didn't win 2011 it can only mean one thing. You must not have been running Rebels. Stick with what brought you to the dance. That's what I always say. No matter how bad you get ridiculed.

Haha, GenCon 2010 was the last time I ran Rebels there, ever since I've ran NR twice and Republic once. Maybe you're onto something....

Yeah, that was a crazy game, Dan. I tend play like that too. However, I don't think of it as risky...more like "aggressive." I love squads where you get to take the fight -to- your opponent, rather than letting them come to you. Aggressive: you set the terms of the engagement, and you do it in a way that gives you good odds of success. "Aggressive" only becomes "foolish" when you no longer calculate your risks.

That's why I loved Skybuck back in the day (still one of the funnest squads I've ever learned), as well as GOWK/Mace (because they can afford to be aggressive, since they can absorb/ignore so much damage). It's also one of the reasons why I never really did very well with Rebels (yes, I went to the 2008 finals with rebels using HanRH/BobaBH/BothanNoble...but that squad was very aggressive).

This is a really fun discussion! Kudos to the OP for starting it. :)

I'll answer this two ways.
1. Squad choice - I tend to run squads that are a little riskier than most, assuming I can out play most of my opponents. I want the ability to do the surprise move with a squad that people don't always see coming.
2. Play style - Very much calculated risk. Although I will say, I tend to be more risky than many of the top players. I like to try to force my opponents into make a tough choice as often as possible. And in Championship play, people tend to get conservative, so they will often make the wrong one.

So overall, I'd say I'm a 7.
