If a package, while trading, disappears because the Post Office screws up, what should happen? Does the sender take responsibility? Is the original shipment given back?

This. I guess it would be handled based on the situation it happens (Swinefeld would be of more help here). Honestly, I think that generally the sender of the lost package is responsible for having tracked or insured it (tracking is generally enough, so it's not usually worth insuring a package, unless it's very expensive. The drawback is that occasionally, the post-office WILL "lose" your package or it's contents, and at that point insurance is the only thing that might save you, if they didn't tear the label off, which devious post-office sorters do sometimes, believe it or not). If they didn't, and it was lost, it stinks, and it SHOULDN'T have happened, but the post-office screws you up sometimes, and we must live with it

Unfortunately, I would say this is all on the sender. If this were an e-bay transaction or if you had purchased something from Amazon, then the sender would be responsible for delivering the product even if the post office or UPS or whoever lost the package. Doesn't happen very often and sure sucks when it does.

This crap happens too often during bad weather. Best advise, If it is important or expensive take the package to the P.O. and have it scanned and get a receipt. Also, you may want to consider Regional A, B, or C boxes as they are cheaper than normal priority mail boxes and come with free shipping insurance. You can only get these boxes by special ordering them from USPS (but they are free). Check out some Youtube videos and they can explain Regional shipping boxes better than I can here.

If the value is high enough, as in, more than you are willing to shell out for replacement items, insurance is the best protection. Over the years, I've had a couple packages go missing, but they were eventually tracked down and delivered due to the delivery confirmation sticker. I can't vouch for what goes on at the USPS these days with all the changes due to budget cuts and so forth. Please feel free to Bloomail me with any questions about the situation.

If you haven't done, go to usps.com and schedule a redelivery. I had a very expensive parcel go missing and after visiting three offices and being told it was missing, it arrived two days after scheduling the redelivery.
