So curious, what makes a piece living or non-living? I see the droids as non living, but what about vehicles like ATST, ATRT, Grievous wheelbike, swamp speeder. Are these all living or non living?

"A living character does not have the Mounted Weapon ability and is either a non-Droid or a Cyborg."
So in other words if it has Droid or Mounted weapon it's non-living everything else counts as living.

Lord Ball, your 'in other words' Lord Ball is the way I used to think of it, but it's not quite correct because of Cyborg.
I thought Cyborg counted as both living and non-living, but it counts only as living. It counts as both a Droid and non-Droid, though.

yeah Cyborg can be a bit confusing, but since a Cyborg doesn't have Droid (even though it counts as one) it still holds true that the character has to actually have either Droid or Mounted Weapon (or both) as an SA to be classified as non-living.

So in my examples all of the vehicles are non-living? And therefore wouldn't Grievous wheelbike receive Tann's CE?

non living does not stop you from receiving a commander effect directly. That is the Droid Special ability. In this case actually Grievous would gain the commander effect. This particular commander effect affects only characters with Mounted weapon, and at the beginning says droids are subject to the commander effect.
