I have not played in a long time and need to know what squad to take to a tournament.
Seeing as how I am not very good, in the SWM community, and I do not know what everyone is playing these days, how do I get people to comment on squads I made?
I kind of just want to know what people think will fair ok at a local type tournament
Sorry if this ruins the flow of the forum.

this will be hard mainly because every area has a different meta, so what goes well in one place may not do well in another. so the first thing to do we be to try and guess what the meta will be.

Admiral Daala.
Snowtrooper Officer.
Snowtrooper Commander.
An R7 or two.
Lots of Snowtroopers (12-20).
Add Admiral Piett and/or Grand Admiral Rulf Yage (Opportunist and/or Cunning) and/or Admiral Pelleon if you want.

5pt Snowtroopers are hitting for 30-40dmg, at a very high attack, after charging 12 squares. That squad build is very hard to beat, and it has won a few tourneys recently.

Welcome back!
I've been playing SWM ever since Rebel Storm came out and my best advice to you is to embrace losing a little bit. In order to get better at the game, you have to take your lumps, be patient to losing, and chalk it up to a learning experience. You can't win at anything in life without practice, practice, and still more practice. I can't tell you how many matches I have lost over the years. To be honest, I don't mind losing because I have learned so much from it. Losing helps me learn and get better. The other thing to keep in mind, a lot/most of the "elite" players left playing the game, are seasoned veterans. Just taking a top squad and playing it at a tournament, is not going to guarantee victory. You have to be a good player to win at SWM against the best players. It completely depends on what type of player you are, what squad you choose to play, the strategy you employ, the match up with who you are playing and what squad they have, and what map you choose to play your squad on. You also need to study ALL the allowable tourney maps at the location you are playing at. You could lose a game on vital placement of your minis at a key or key moments of the game, and that could lose the match for you. Gambit, is also something that is important to understand, and not ignore. Sometimes a point or 2, could win you the game, especially in a 60 minute contest. At last years GenCon championship, I went 3-2, with 2 of my loses to Gerry and Daniel, both who made the top 8. The point is, in a tourney, if you are to do well, you will be matched up against really good players, and may get your hat handed to you. I play for the fun of it, and back here at my LGS, me and the core group of guys, who play on a regular basis, mainly play for fun ( fun scenarios, mass battles, theme battles, ect. ) I promise you, this is where you would get the most enjoyment out of the game. Good luck, and most of all, have fun!

To add to that, some groups don't use the V-Sets for various reasons (Don't consider them official, think they are overpowered, personal grudge against the designers, etc.), so they'll be stuck in the old WotC meta which is vastly different and smaller compared to today's meta.

Also, there is always the risk of them using house rules. I remember one guy from the WotC boards whose play group decided that targeting rules were too complicated and so everybody could shoot whoever they saw. It was a real pain when he would go around answering rules questions, oblivious to the fact that he wasn't playing the same game as everyone else.
