I play both, but I prefer casual.

Never played a competitive game yet, just casual (weekly when I'm at uni). After hearing all about the competitive scene on Bloomilk and SHNN, though, I think I'd definitely prefer casual. It sounds like there is specific builds in the meta you have to worry about countering or fielding, I'd rather just throw together a fun (albiet strong) squad. It also sounds like in competitive games rules get scrutinized a lot more, I'd rather just play.
That being said, hoping this summer to give the competitive game a spin somewhere in Toronto ON, although I've heard that it's pretty much dead around there compared to most other areas.

I just play casual. I try to design decently strong/competitive squads, but my ability to do so is fortunately limited by my collection's lack of auto-includes such as the Ugnaught and the Mouse Droid. And sometimes I play silly or themed squads for the heck of it.
Playing weekly, however... Eh, not really, and especially not lately. I tend to vary from playing six times in one week to zero times in two months.
Are you asking because you are looking for a partner to play with over VASSAL?

Most people are not tournament-only players for the simple reason that most locations don't have many tournaments. I normally only play one per year, though this year I'll go to GenCon for the first time so I'll have more than one.
Of course then the question is whether each game uses standard 200pt tournament format and is played with optimized squads.

I don't know of anyone who'd classify themselves as a 'tournament only' player. Some of our most competitive players have come up with mass battle scenarios and fun formats.
