To my understanding, no EPIC squad would pose a serious threat to 200 level top-tier squads. So my questions are:
1. Why are EPIC’s banned from squads in tourney play?
2. Can someone show me a 200 point squad with an EPIC in it that would no doubt crush the opponent (who had no access to EPIC’s)?

I tried the link but I guess it wont work

I don't see where any squad with an Epic piece would be highly competitive, simply because there are so many ways to defeat an epic piece. If nothing else, Poggle and 8 Bombs plus an MTB should be able to take down most of the Epics that we have...even Mara Jade, whose Spy ability would normally prevent her from being attacked. But outside of Poggle, many people use Lobot, who has access to Wicket and the R5 Droid (for a total of -8 Defense for the Epic piece), which will often result in the Epic piece (which never has a good HP:Cost ratio) being torn down in just a round or two.

However, some of the Epics would likely be a major NPE to certain squads that are not equipped to handle them. Mara Jade with Spy, or Darth Bane with his crazy armor, for example. There's nothing to stop you from adding Epic pieces to your normal 200pt local tournaments, though.

This is the reason. And probably just as big of a reason is just because they weren't designed or tested for standard 200. So if one slips through that is too good for that point level, then that problem is already taken care of.

OK yeah I guess Bane would be a problem, and design is a problem, it just seems to me that many meta squads could easily down EPIC squads 99% of the time... I guess there is that 1% to worry about

Case in point:

--2 Point Wins FTW!--
126 Mara Jade Skywalker, Galactic Hero
29 Ganner Rhysode
12 Klatooinian Assassin
9 General Dodonna
8 R7 Astromech Droid
3 Mouse Droid
3 Rodian Brute
9 Ugnaught Demolitionist x3
(199pts. 10 activations)

At the end of the round, levitate Mara and run her into gambit (ignoring doors because of Master Slicer). She can sit there all game, gathering gambit. The rest of your squad stays locked in a room way at the back of the map, where they can't be attacked (the Klat is there to pepper any advancing pieces with shots). At the end of the game, she'll usually at least be tied on gambit, since she was there since Round 1; if she's behind on points for some reason then she can kill an enemy piece or two (depending on options) and win on points. It'll be 2pt wins all the time, but they will be wins.

Yes, there are ways to beat her (Poggle Bombs and other non-targeting methods of damage-dealing), but they are few, and most of them are not used very often.

i think the Epic Maul would be a deterrent also. Cloaked, greater mobile, double/twin, high Def, and several helpful force powers, along with Juyo.
HE would decimate several squad types and even if they could get a clear shot on him they wouldnt likely hit him. Even Mace LOTLS would need an 11 to hit him.
