So, a previous question mentioned that characters taking advantage of Jorus's MMM can use his Force Renewal 2 or Master of the Force 2. I never really thought about either of those counting as Force powers, so my question is: can you Force Defense an enemy's Force Renewal? And slightly more nit-picky: can you Force Defense an enemy's Master of the Force? I'm imagining something like this: you hit an adjacent enemy with MotF3. That enemy uses Lightsaber Defense, and fails the save. They spend a second FP to reroll. Could you Force Defense/Absorb their MotF3, eliminating the possibility of spending FPs a third time, and/or possibly canceling the reroll? Force Defense's glossary text reads: (Force; 3 Force points) A character using this Force power cancels the effects of a Force power used by a character within 6 squares. You must decide whether to use Force Defense immediately after the other Force power is declared but before it takes effect. That Force power is still considered to have been used that turn, and the affected character still spends the Force points. Wouldn't this mean that when someone spends a second Force point in a turn, they are 'using' MotF, which can thus be canceled? That second part was probably way overly-detailed, especially considering that's probably not how it works. But thanks for reading

while I am pretty sure you can force defense, or force absorb force renewal. I am not so sure on master of the force. renewal is an ability that actually takes place. I am not sure master of the force works the same way.

While Renewal can be defensed/absorbed, Master of the Force cannot.
The reason is because of timing, you need to absorb/defend when the force power is used. With Master of the Force, that power is never really activated, it's just always on. Think of it along the lines of, say, Unique or Wookiee. A character never activates them, they're just there.

So... suppose in an alternate format all characters started within 6 squares of each other. Could you Force Defense someone's starting Force points? Does that ability trigger at some point during the beginning of the skirmish/setup or before characters are on the board?

No. Again, that'd be a passive, always on ability, so there's never a point where it activates.
