In a couple of years, when wizards winds down their production of swm, wouldn't it be cool if they let the fans make the set, and then vote for their favorite figs to be in it? You know, as one last hurrah for a great line of minis?

Then Wizards shouldn't let that one qualify. Anybody entering should make it a piece they wouldn't mind facing to much.

Sadly, it isn't feasable. Sets have a lead time of 12-14 months.
