I have been out of the game for a couple of years and I have a few questions.

1. If you intend to play Vset figures in an organized event like Gencon, do you need to have the officially printed vset cards? If so how can I acquire the cards? I donated to the first 2 vsets so I have those but I need the rest.

2. There are several new vsets in the database. Are all of the vsets legal in tournament competition? Team building is a bit more difficult now with so many sets of cards to pick from.

3. What is legacy format?

4. Is Bloomilk the best resource for this game now?

Thanks in advance

I think we've met before... Are you from Kentucky?

Anyway, to answer your questions:

No, you can print them out from the PDFs, which can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/94b3f86ypxwje0s/AAAOBnAe6Un57276mCwLtqeGa/V-set%20PDFS?dl=0

However, if you do want some of the officially printed cards, urbanjedi might be able to hook you up. I know he has at least some extra, I don't know which ones, though. You should send him a PM.

Yes, they're all legal. There is actually a discussion going on right now about how it can be difficult for new/returning/inexperienced players to get into the game because of how many options there are. I will probably be writing a kind of "beginners strategy guide" to help with that, to kind of explain each faction and the competitive options therein. It's just an idea I had today, but I think it's a good one, so keep an eye out for that.

3. What is legacy format?

It's an unofficial format made from a lot of house rules by some guys in Tennessee. It's played locally there, but mostly it's played on VASSAL. They banned some WotC figures, changed some rules, and for the most part don't use the V-sets. They also have their own custom set. It's not really played outside of VASSAL and Jamestown, TN, but if you do want more info about it, check the threads made by ultrastar in the VASSAL forum here on Bloomilk.

At the moment, yes. SWMGamers.com is actually getting pretty heavily revamped, though, to hopefully be a better resource for direction. Bloomilk is the most active forum though.

Welcome back to the game!

At the top of the rules forum, there is a "Rules Links" thread:

http://www.bloomilk.com/Forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=1090

It's one of the most useful threads, but it is a bit buried, so there's a link to it. In turn, it has links to the Vset cards, all the official rules resources, the map list (visual guide), etc.

Yes, I used to play with the Kentucky group and thank you for your response.

One more question:
Will there be star wars minis at Gencon this year?

Cool, I'm Daniel Stephens, I think we actually played before, I attended all the Owensboro regionals with the Atlanta guys. I thought your screen name sounded familiar. Smile

There will be lots of SWM at GenCon this year! SWMGamers is actually a featured group now, which means we have a better presence than ever before.

I remember you guys. I have played clix with Weeks a couple times.

Unfortunately the Owensboro playgroup is dead. Only Jason and I are still living in the area and I don't think he is interested in playing.

On the topic of vsets I think having lots of team building options is a good thing but it is scary not knowing all the figures that might line up across from you.

Yeah, that's been the general consensus: lots of options is great, but it can be intimidating for people. That's why I think a strategy guide for new and returning players would be good; I look for them a lot when I get into a new game and it's nice to get a general idea of which strategies are good, which are bad, and some starting squads. Nothing will ever make up for experience, but it should help.

I highly recommend for newer players and returning ones to get some practice games in on Vassal. It is a great resource and it improves your game, while also getting you comfortable playing a squad build your thinking of running. If you ever need someone to test against on Vassal let me know via bloomail or post here on bloomilk in the Vassal forum that your looking for a game.

Welcome back!
