I don't know how many people have contacted me about not knowing where to install all of the necessary files for Vassal, and where to access an updated HOW TO. This is something that needs to be addressed as SWM is played more and more online these days.

Biggest areas that need to be addressed.

1. Where to find the latest SWM Mod
2. Where to find the latest SWM Extension
3. How to Install everything.

If we could pin that here, an updated list of info for everyone it would be insanely helpful to the community.

Wouldn't it be possible for someone to put the whole file together and setup then share it over the internet

It has become a nightmare to get Star Wars minis mod & extensions to work on Vassal.
I've asked for help before and got "go watch the video." The video is old and tells you to go to swmresources.
I tried the swm mod and swm extension in the Dropbox link on bloomilk and that got me no where.
You have no idea how many times I have tried and given up. It's very frustrating.
Other members of the playtest committee are asking me to playtest with them on Vassel. But I can't figure it out!
Okay, Rant complete... I will try this stuff again and let you guys know if it worked.

Ok, used the new sticky post, used the links and followed the videos and here is what I am seeing...
- SWM Skirmish Game version 11.0
- Extension Virtual Sets v7.0 loaded

I have the tournament maplist for 2013 and characters up to V-sets 7.
So am I now up to date and current??

You should have Virtual Sets 8 - perhaps Echo's Dropbox does not have the 8.0 extension.
Grab the "virtual sets.mdx" from the alternate link (to my file share) I posted - that one includes v-set 8. Overwrite the older file with it.

Here's a quick and dirty method for the whole process: (Windows)

note: I just went through this a few minutes ago

1) install latest Vassal, using the custom install option and remove all existing versions, leave everything else as is

2) put the .vmod and virtual sets.mdx files in some personal folder of your choosing (can be a folder on the desktop if you want) - DON'T PUT THEM IN THE VASSAL FOLDER, save them where they are easy to find and keep track of so you can copy newer versions over them.

3) launch Vassal, then click File > Open Module (locate the .vmod you downloaded, open)

4) when you see the module listed in the Vassal program, right-click on it > Add Extension (locate the .mdx file, open)
-Vassal automatically created a subfolder called SWMinis_ext in the folder I had made and moved the extension into it

I also had a dialog box that said 'tiling images' that seemed to hang on Desert Outpost - must be a problem with that map image - I clicked cancel to make it go away.

Launch the module - in the SWM Skirmish Game window you should see:

- SWM Skirmish Game version 11.0
- Extension Virtual Sets 8 v8.0 loaded

seems to be functioning properly, though I did not go onto Vassal server

Most people simply do not know where to get the updated SWM Vassal Mod. That's been a big problem for people I have talked with.

So here's the problem.
#1 The Vassal files can't be on Vassal so getting everything installed is tricky.
#2 Thereisnotry Videos talk about Echo and direct you to SWMResources
#3 Top link in Bloomilk "Vassal files and more" is Echo's drop box with an old SWMinis_ext
#4 Ask for help and people tell you to go watch Thereisnotry's videos.
#5 The correct & updated files a bottom link called Swinefeld's SWM file share "V-Set add-ons and other stuff"

Something needs to be done to direct people to the correct files.

Don't know, I'm under the impression the Vassal swm mod is WotC sets only.

Ok, so I've got the Module Version 11, but when I try to install the Virtual Set file, it tells me that it's not a valid VASSAL module. I tried extracting it, but then I couldn't figure out which file I should be opening, if that makes sense.

ETA: Never mind, I got it. I think I'm up and running!
