How exactly does this work according to the Resolving Effects list? http://www.bloomilk.com/Forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=10805Based on the wording "Remove character from play; it is defeated" I would think the character is removed from play and doesn't count as defeated until after it is removed from the grid. (In other words, just reverse steps 13 and 14 in the Resolving Effects list.) In that case, it's off the grid and no longer adjacent to anything when defeated, so Self-Destruct wouldn't do anything. But we always play that you can use the MTB to blow up bombs on other people. So that's not right. So I guess I've always just read it as shorthand for, "Skip step 12 of the Resolving Effects list... the character will be defeated and cannot use any 'would be defeated' abilities." Is there more (or less) to it than that?

Basically. When you remove a character from play, you first apply all "when defeated" triggers before actually removing the piece from the board. This is in the FAQ under Tactics Broker.

Right. I got that part. Just looking for the specifics of how it relates to the Resolving Effects list.

I think the wording is just clarifying that the character is defeated, not defeated after it leaves play. Glossary Text Once per round before initiative is determined, if this character is in your squad, choose one other character in your squad. Remove the chosen character from play (it counts as defeated) and choose an opponent. That opponent's initiative check result is automatically 1. If a tie requires rerolling initiative, this ability cannot be used again for tie-breaking. Maybe another case of card "shorthand"?
