Darth_Reignir wrote:+1 here. Rebels really got some neglect in this set. But if you want to play competitively, you should just use Asajj/Cad Bane. The new set's not legal for GenCon anway, so it's by the by, but I think that the Rebels got some very good tools in this set. Chopper's a non-Luke movement breaker, which might help make Luke Hero of Endor much stronger, Bria Tharen and the Crimson Fury Pilots are a fairly strong swarm squad, and Luke Red 5 is a good cheap shooter. I haven't looked closely enough at the Rebels stuff to have an opinion on them, but they all look kind of interesting. Also, Cad and Assaj are very good, but personally I think Sharron's on the money with: Quote:imperial. if there is a daala squad and a double swap squad, i dont think anything can consistently beat both. If you'd been following recent tournament results rather than simply extrapolating your group's casual play findings over the entirety of the competitive game, you'd maybe agree. You guys spend a lot of the time complaining about big Jedi being broken (Mace, Bane), but a lot of the results in tournaments this year have demonstrated that the strongest things are actually highly teched-up squads (activations shenanigans with Marn, Gha Nachkt, Lobot, MTB etc, tempo control, Imperial Governor).

Again. I still think those 9 attack Rebs are going to pull through.

Daala was depowered. Yes. Gha Nackt and the 12+ Mouse Droids is NOT addressed. Just because there are some people who also find it disgustingly low and obviously an NPE, means in no way that "those issues have been addressed."
Mace and Bane can be taken out. Shooters. Yes. But we're at a point in the game where we're all trying to figure out the best way to reintroduce melee into the game, having been severely underwelming since the twilight sets of wotc. With that in mind, it seems counterproductive and frankly, ignorant, to say, "Dude, just use Boba Fett! Issue resolved." Sure, you may have dealt with one terribly imbalanced melee piece, but in the broader scale, you're ignoring the problem by putting a quick fix on it.
Bane doesn't make it in the tournaments, sure. Mace made it to the top in one of the WI regionals; Lord Krayt made it to the top by amazingly declaring that dead force spirits are in fact "living," but none of this is any reflection of the balance of the piece or the competiveness of it.
And lastly, while I appreciate you acknowledging my emotions, I'm not sure you understand now NPE works if you think that emotions don't change the rules. Nobody *enjoys* NPE. Hence the, "N." It goes without saying that the Gha Nackt/Mouse Droid combination is a major source of NPE. But as you said, somehow because a couple people support the cause to change those rules, the issue is resolved. So what you're telling me is that NPE helped change the rules -- yet, emotive arguments do nothing?

I think there are some squads that will take people by surprise. Rebel commandos possibly mixed with yobuck, some unique separatist builds, hopefully some different daala and double swap. I expect for the top 8 to look close to this, and in no particular order.
1. Yobuck 2. Daala 3. Durge 4. Double Swap 5. Elite Republic Commandos 6. Talon 7. Bastilla 8. Nomb Bombs
I could be way off base, but based upon what I think others will play this is my guess. I wouldn't count out a moving mandos, grevious snipers, mace/gowk or single swap. Edit: Lord Krayt could make a splash if you don't know how to beat it.

Whoo boy, best guess? Idk, maybe not dalaa, i'm guessing people will come tricked out to fight Dalaa swarms and end up losing to soemthing else. OR pilots look pretty strong and any Swap is a strong Contender, I'd love to say Republic Commandos but i dont think they've got what it takes. My final Prediction is Imperial

I'm betting on Darth Jim. I'm also feeling kind of dizzy from the time warp.

Juiceman had me pinned in my starting area both at FrostyCon and the GenCon championship swiss rounds. I was lucky to win both times. I've never seen Dr. Daman play, but I know he's good no matter what he throws down.

What I find interesting is that the Seps & Imps seem to have held, for want of a better term, dominance the last few years, yet the V-Sets have failed to come up with either good enough counters or good enough pieces to elevate the other factions. And when counters have come up, the Seps/Imps seem to come up with new pieces to continue their dominance. I'm no expert, put that is what I perceive ....

I certainly agree with this - it's been frustrating over the last few sets to see Imperials and Seps get the most dominant pieces - Daala, Commando Droid Officer, and Imperial Governor are probably the three biggest missteps in the v-sets, and they've all gone to the already strong factions. I am hopeful that the removal of rapport for pieces going under 3 points and any adjustments to Poggle will hurt the Seps a bit, and bring them back into the pack. Thrawn's always something that the game has to work around - he can be very difficult to face if you don't outactivate him or have a way of taking out his activations quickly. It would be good to see some more out-activate and smash counters in the game.
