Hey guess. Had a few questions I was hoping to get answered?

1. Why do most of the V-Sets have a sub set? Is there anything special about the sub sets?

2. Is there anything different about the EPIC and Bounty Hunter V-Cards? Are they all allowed in tournament play?

Thank you very much.

subsets generally have a different theme and usually don't cost more to print, because one price may cover 1000-1200
cards for ex.

Epic characters are only legal in the Epic 500 format, or any other event/game you want to play
Bounty Hunter cards are legal only with the tournament organizer's approval

As I understand it, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm round, the mini sets are the V-sets' answer to the map packs WotC put out between sets. It's also a fun way to do really deep development of a particular theme, which you can't always do in the main sets.

The BHC cards were originally created for a specific run of events at Gen Con. You could win them there, or they were released usually the next set. They were all exactly 100 points and are legal for tournament play.

I don't know as much about the genesis of the Epic cards, but they are not tournament legal.

Epics are commonly used in 500 point tournaments.

@UrbanShmi,
that's my understanding also; they're like map packs or a little extra,
and they're a practical concern because in order to fill a print order, a set has to be say 1200 or 2000 cards etc...

@all
EPIC cards are designed to be the ultimate incarnation of a character, also known as 'fan-person/fanboi' cards.
rather than being a version of a character from a moment in time, they are the 'ultimate' 'at their best' version.
They're meant for larger games from 250 up, and have only recently been explored properly in Dynamic Duos or local Tile Wars games at events.
For tournaments, it depends on the arbiter and the players - if folks want that to contend with, go for it.
From past experience, the EPICs tend to leave a squad missing some of their vital "Meta Hobson's Choice" autoinclude pieces,
which makes their squad vulnerable - usually to tempo control or override, or Area of Effect and auto damage
by the second or third round, the EPIC focused squad if played poorly, doesn't make the top 8.
However, if played well, and the opponents have never seen a VSET card or custom before - ever, which does still happen from time to time,
then it is not fun at all.
Usually folks have minis prepared on the day - so come prepared with a few squad ideas to try out.

If its one thing learned from FFGs ST:AW,
its the idea of having an intermezzo and the ability to swap lists mid tournament (once per person per event)
that was an awesome idea that has reduced the volume of complaints by half! BigGrin
