can you use slave collar to make someone a slave (have savage) and than use beast tamer to give them mount?
if so that slave collared individual is no longer savage but stl gets-2 defense? and self destruct 20?

it will be interesting how this resolves.
I'd go with "yeah, Doneeta's ability would work with conditional savage, and you retain the bonus..."

I could see people advocate for "only while savage",
but that's not traditionally how other similar things work,
such as unique at any time of game vs 'for initial squad building purposes only'

great question,
and dynamic meta-fun squads BigGrin

+1

I would agree, that how it is written, Watto Slaves some at set up until the end of the skirmish. Nowhere does it state that the bonuses come as long as they have Savage. You would get the bonuses even when Tamed.

I use a similar Tactic with Savage Oppress and the Nightsister Witch.

Awesome! Not really that many great options for a living large or larger follower in Old Republic or Fringe to choose from. But it is still pretty cool for casual play

I can't see why it wouldn't work, so I'd say Watto's Piggyback Rides is open for business.

I am, so if you need an 'official' answer, yes it works, and the character keeps the other effects.

Just adding some thoughts to this. The ability given is Slave not Savage. Savage and -2d are encapsulated within the ability Slave, so unless an ability removed Slave, this combo may not be legal. Just being Devil's Advocate. I like the combo and I don't really have any issue with it, but crossing t's and dotting i's....

What you've said here is exactly why it works. Slave grants Savage, SD, and -2 defense separately. The Slaved character still has Slave, but just loses the first part (Savage) when being tamed. It's a clever use of the pieces, but nothing contradictory about it (although I admit it gave me pause at first).

I think what makes it seem odd is that the effects of Slave are transient. Empathy creates a similar situation.

Just remember in all of this, If an allied commander is within 6 squares you don't even have Slave and would lose Mount because you "technically" wouldn't have Savage to lose. It doesn't apply to the afore mentioned squad, as it doesn't have a commander. I've now gone cross-eyed.

The reason why I dont think that is the case is because Beast tamer has a "end of skirmish" timeline that seems to be absolute.

The savage is situational but "real" when it is in effect. So while it is real tyou can use Beast Tamer which is "absolute"

Not quite. Having an allied commander nearby would mean that you couldn't apply Beast Tamer whilst the Slave is in range. It wouldn't mean that a tamed character would suddenly lose Mount if a commander got too close.
