Greetings SWM community!

Speaking for myself and the guys here in our gaming group and our LGS here in California, 6 new character stat cards for Force Awakens is a joke. I'm sorry, but for one of the best SW movie in decades, new SW canon, and a set of circumstances 30 years after Return of the Jedi, warrants a full set dedication. In fact, with 2 more movies around the corner, in between movies like Rogue One, and a Han Solo Boba Fett movie on the horizon, why can't we focus on the new movies. The new movies are what's in, and will attract and generate more interest from this generations perspective. My kids like the originals, but let's face it; we need to appeal to the current generation, as this is where our game lies, and this is what will attract new players. Thanks for hearing the opinions of a bunch of us here in Cali. May the Force be with us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

unfortunately with the timing of the movie, we couldn't wait until after the movie came out to start designing set 12. I would expect to see more Force Awakens stuff in set 13.

I get it. I'm on board with having patience, and seeing the design team tackle it, now that we've been able to digest the new movie. I wasn't sure about what direction they were going in and if they were going to release another "Force Awakens" set, being that they only did a subset. Wizards was highly successful in releasing sets dedicated to the current SW movies in theatres. I think that if we can have full sets dedicated to each movie, like Wizards did, we'll have at least a little higher interest lvl. Even if we have to wait 6-8 months or whatever amt of time it takes after a new movie has been released, I think it would really be worth it. Thanks guys!

@darthmaim
awesome stuff - to see some passion for SWMinis on display,
and for SW more broadly is awesome to see!
thanks for sharing

indeed, the opportunity exists for you and other NuWars fans
to make your very own custom minis, as SWM is discontinued,
(the main buzz for SW-related tabletop minis is FFG's "imperial assault")
luckily the awesome team that make the official-unofficial VSets
are slowly working their way to that nuwars subject matter - they'll get there shortly-ish

the VSet team are being more careful to make even more awesome pieces,
and take their time, which results in less errata and fewer OP meta-pieces or auto-includes.
apparently the more prominent pieces were chosen due to time and set size constraints,
while more pieces - hopefully the myriad fringe aliens and droids we saw in the newer continuity films and tie-in merch too? -
will eventually be made unofficially-official,
sanctioned for a tabletop near you.

in the meantime,
surf has made quite an inroads to those
first order and resistance cards,
which can be a 'booster-pack fix' in the meantime
i can't recommend checking out surf's work enough BigGrin
Rey-ray and Ben Starkiller/Darth K-Ren make for a great dynamic duo!
Capn' Plasma and Bao-Dur are a fun dynamic duo.
creepy-notyoda-cantina-alien and dannik jerriko? extra creepy fringe duo.
bb-8 would also replace a lot of healers in dynamic duo droid builds... especially the versions
which have accelerate and flamethrower 20. does bb-8 provide cover?

I'd enjoy seeing TFA and post epVI continuity,
treated as an entirely separate era/epoch in terms of recreation or scenario play,
and as separate factions entirely,
rather than as 'rebels" or "imperials' with a caveat SA,
though thats a personal approach to the subject.

so, just as you can't have
the Old Republic (can you believe, some folks dislike the TOR/KOTOR games and continuity?)
vs
NuWars,
you can't have
CloneWars
vs
NuWars etc...
for 'authentic era recreation" etc...

nuwars v nuwars is good to go,
New Republic, YVong and TotJ-later Imperials vs NuWars is probably alright too,
given nuwars is "i-cant-believe-its-not-postEpVI-continuity"
is Darth K-Ren functionally Desann? (Desann betrayed luke's order, and they made a game series with it)
or more like Jerec?
would supreme leader snorkel be Jerec, emperor reborn, baron fel etc?

seguing to the SW near future,
I am looking forward to Rogue One
(why the reshoot? let the steamer air and fans'll decide if they like it or not)
a not-kyle-katarn and jan-ors would be cool to see make it to the big screen.
who wouldn't want to see a Yoda movie? PG or higher rated, it'd be awesome any way you look at it.
and a Han Solo/Boba Fett film. jennifer laurence as aurra sing, lando's got a few actors lining up to play-
a whole bunch of bounty hunters and all
so, hopefully there'll be a lot of new content from all that
which can be pastiched into a continuity of some kind BigGrin

tangenting to a related topic;
hopefully, this renewed interest in SWMinis,
leads to new... minis. actual physical miniatures, with detail and all...
rather than the plethora of 'counts as' proxy-ing,
which can get quite confusing at times
(proxy-ing is fine; cardboard pepakura stand-ins exist for most anything you can think of,
and are all linked on the how-to thread in the customs section)
people seem to care less about the miniatures themselves,
and more about the statcard -
to the point some use checkers or chess pieces as proxies hehe
or, those paizo goblins/wizkids gremlins as proxies for ewoks -
thatsa nicea proxy hehe BigGrin

More miniatures = more customising fodder,
and there'll be something cathartic to
making primeverse minis from altverse miniatures parts BigGrin

the whole point to custom minis is that,
anyone can make them and have a go;
they don't have to be perfect, and it's something you made yourself.
So, it'd be awesome to see how folks make custom minis for the new continuity.

anywho,
thanks all for reading,
and I look forward to seeing
what other customisers or SWMinis-ers? (is that correct nomenclature?)
think on this subject,
more importantly - what new miniatures, and statcards, they come up with BigGrin

For the record, this is exactly the same progression that happened with the Rebels TV show. Set 10 did the major characters as a subset, and then later sets brought additional characters in their main sets. There's a lot of lag time between the start of the design process and the release of a set, and we as designers don't have access to any more information than anyone else regarding the new characters. As much as we would love to be able to bring more of these characters to life, sometimes release schedules just don't line up right. It's more important to have an accurate representation character that fits well into the game than to get something out immediately. But I think it's safe to assume that the new Star Wars media will be represented going forward, including more TFA characters.

I agree, truth is JJ Abrams is a total douche. Wizards got early access to Star Wars content but for us JJ was tighter than a Kiwi in a sheep.
June 2015 while I had JJ on the phone I tried to explain to him that we need more than 6 Force Awakens characters for V-Set 12.
He agreed, "look, Bry, Bry, (that's what JJ calls me) I'm not supposed to do this but there's a really cool Captain Phasma you could make."
Then we watched the film and I was like... you douche.

I'm sorry and only skimmed this thread so if I missed something ....

But an obvious point would be that while we know lots of names, sometimes that's All we know; is Poe a poor man's Wedge or has he got more to him than that? What is Phasma capable of, etc.

Patience padawan's patience .... Cool

Just for the record, VSet 13 is not making any TFA pieces, or maybe we're making 13...hehe. That was unintentional...

PS

With only 40-45 minis per set, we can easily make new sets specifically titling each new movie being released, ( - Rogue One and Han Solo/Boba Fett stand alones, however, sub-sets should cover these very nicely! ) unless there is some type of Disney/Lucasfilm copyright infringement, barring us from doing so.
