I just want to say I love Force Ghosts/spirits.
I still dont think they should be considered living and more importantly I think that we have quite a few good ghosts and I do not think we need any power creep from future ghosts and I think that if any are designed they should understand they CANNOT replace anything that we already have (except maybe a cheaper Yoda ghost). but you know what I mean. They shouldn't be any better than the good ones we have now. They should jsut play a different role and be used in a different role

I think they are fine as is. Technically who is to say they aren't living? Living force and all that jazz. Also it's a neat boost for the Sith/Rebels that could use the extra force points

I wish they couldn't haunt each other, and I think we have about as many as we can support, I think they are fine for the most part.

Curious how many people dislike it that ghosts count as living? Is it more for the fact that it makes no sense, or for gameplay reasons (transfer essence into a ghost, for example)

Also curious who else wishes ghosts couldn't haunt other ghosts. Likewise - in-universe reasons, or gameplay reasons (stacking force pools, etc)?

I think the stacking Force pools are kinda cool. You kinda need it to get any good use out of Nihilus, and it helps Caedus a ton. Thematically, the idea behind a force ghost haunting someone is that they are teaching them about the force. There's nothing terribly convincing about Bane's ghost teaching Nihilus's ghost, but that's not to say it couldn't happen - just it probably wouldn't, from what we've seen of dead Sith's egos.

As far as living goes, I think the mechanic refers more to "Is this machinery, or not?" Ghosts certainly aren't droids or tanks. The person themselves obviously died, but if a Jedi or Sith spirit is still doing stuff and talking to people, I don't think you could say that their spirit "died," so that would technically leave you with a "living" entity - even if not flesh-and-blood. Transfer Essence is odd, but if a force ghost is a concentration of Force energy I think it's reasonable enough to transfer into it.

I vote that Force ghosts count as legally alive BigGrin

I like ghosts haunting ghosts. I don't like that they could potentially all go to the New Republic together. Not worth changing, though.

Only light spirits. And Exar if you bring Gantoris.

No Freedon Nadd or Marka Ragnos.

So there are only 3 force spirits you can bring into NR that couldn't get there without Tionne.

Regardless, we made Tionne significantly over costed (on purpose, to prevent abuse). I can't imagine it ever being a problem.

Sorry I was using bloomilk to count and Arca isn't there yet.

So 4 that you normally couldn't have without Tionne

Even having them all in NR shouldn't be much of a problem, since only the Sith can haunt each other to any benefit. Sure, Anakin Ghost can give Yoda Spirit Mettle, but that's stupid.

Don't like living spirits in the game for gameplay or thematic reasons. It was a silly loop hole wizards just never cared about but it wasn't a problem in the early competitive game. Then as we got more spirits they became a necessary force battery. However, players realized spirits haunting spirits gave you an enhance force battery even more difficult to defeat. Normally, you would attack your opponent and if you defeated a host- you also defeat the ghost. But when the host is a ghost, instead of attacks you need force points and luck to defeat them. Perhaps the larger negative effect was that designers couldn't create cool additional or alternative force batteries because..well ghosts. Then Transfer essence into ghosts became a thing. Transferring into ghosts that can walk through walls and cannot be attacked is one of the dirtiest tricks in the game. It' even meaner than Swap, but fortunately the transfer essence pieces we have don't build anything on the power level of a Thrawn squad. But don't expect to be seeing any new Transfer Essence characters anytime soon.

From a thematic standpoint it doesn't make sense. Lightside Spirits are not living. Lightside characters actually die and become one with the force, they pass on into the afterlife but are still able to commune with the living. Yes, Yoda, Obi, Ani spirits all appear to Luke in RotJ. They are all haunting Luke, not each other!

The dark side does not allow one to survive final death. To escape death a Darkside users would Transfer their essence out of their bodies.
They became living energy and required another body or object to inhabit to not be torn apart and face a final death. The Sith were constantly fighting each other for control and strongly believed in not sharing power. It's spurious to think that such evil selfish Sith spirits would seek to help another evil selfish Sith spirit. If Exar Kun transferred his essence into a Dark Force Spirit he'd remain disembodied living energy and not have a physical body able to make atttacks.... that's just silly.

+1

While I agree that they shouldn't be considered living what I really like is that Jenari used the words 'creep' and 'ghost' in the same sentence. Well done, sir.

After reading Dracul's post, I would totally be okay with spirits counting as nonliving if it opened the door to wider creativity/more ghosts/more force batteries in the future.

I would still argue that the force is not "dead," and so a force ghost (which is one with the force) is no more dead than the force is dead, but again, I think the whole living/non-living distinction refers much more to differentiating machinery from living beings. But I have no stake in the matter either way, and I'd prefer wider options for future designers than cling to this one ruling.

But I do enjoy chaining ghosts to Nihilus BigGrin
