What faction is a Father squad considered to be? Can you just choose the faction of one of the other two squad members?
What if one character has Affinity for the other's faction? Just as an illustration, if your squad was Father, Ben Skywalker, and Vestara Khai, would it have to be a New Republic squad because of Vestara's affinity? Or could you have it be a Sith Squad that just happens to have a New Republic character?
I think the only time this would matter is with Faction hunter abilities and Rival for specific factions, but I just thought I'd ask.

Excellent question, and thank you for providing a trickier example.  This is a significant matter (was already on my radar, but for other reasons) which will require rules committee discussion. Stay tuned for a ruling (asap).

Ok, it seemed more complicated at first than it was.
In your example, Vestara's Affinity would take precedence so the squad would be New Republic.
Without affinity in the picture, using 2 non-Fringe characters of different factions, yes, you would declare one of those as the squad's faction. The 2 characters retain their printed faction, and Rival/Hunter/etc abilities would apply normally, on an individual basis.
