True or False:

Disciplined Leader (and by extension, Moff Disra's CE) only works to prevent the commander(s) from being disrupted?

I would say false. The wording is analogous to Disruptive, which obviously affects both commanders and followers.

I would hope it's false. That's the way we have played, and it would make both abilities pretty much worthless if you could just disrupt the follower and cancel the CE.

Hand Signals is different, though. You have to have Order 66 and line of sight to be protected. Commanders hiding in the back would not be protected, so ABM would turn them off (or Disruptive if you managed to get all the way back there).

It's always been a bit foggy to me for some reason.

Quote:
Hand Signals

Q: What happens when the commander is affected by Disruptive?
A: Hand Signals would not prevent the commander itself from having its Commander Effect suppressed. If this happens, no one would benefit from the Commander Effect, even if they are benefiting from the effects of Hand Signals

I think this FAQ could use some additional wording to clarify the situations it addresses (ie non-O66 commanders or O66 not currently benefiting from Hand Signals)

Agreed.

I think this is correct:

Q: What happens when a commander without Order 66 is affected by Disruptive? What about a commander that does not have line of sight to this character?
A: In either of those cases, Hand Signals would not prevent the commander itself from having its Commander Effect suppressed. If this happens, no one would benefit from the Commander Effect, even if they are benefiting from the effects of Hand Signals.

That's definitely better.

I am still seeking a definitive answer to the original question though. To permanently clear the fog in my head. ;)

Hand Signals is different than Disciplined Leader. Disciplined Leader prevents the CE from being suppressed, whether it is the commander itself, or characters being affected by it. So, false.

Thank you. Now I can move on to overthinking something else. ;)

Please help me understand this::

This happened at Frosty Con last weekend...
Caedus shot my OR Trooper with Hera's Suppressive Fire.
She put 40 damage on the 50hp OR Trooper.

So that OR Trooper could no longer receive GMA from AJG's CE that round.
However, I had Aric Jorgan w/6 of that OR Trooper and more than 3 same named characters w/6 of it as well.
Aric Jorgan has Disciplined Leader and his CE gives Squad Firepower to w/6 Soldiers and Troopers.

I wanted to use that OR Trooper's Triple Attacks with Squad Firepower.
Caedus thought the OR Trooper might not be able to receive Squad Firepower.
I thought Disciplined Leader kept Aric's CE from being Suppressed.
We asked for a ruling and were told that the receiver would be suppressed. (No Squad Firepower)

I'm not upset about the ruling and it didn't hugely effect our game.
I'd like to understand Disciplined Leader better to see if it's even worth continued use.
So I'm reading this thread and it seems like Disciplined Leader means the Commander and the Receiver can't be suppressed. I'm also not seeing a difference between what Disruptive and Suppressive Fire do.

Disruptive:
Characters within 6 squares cannot receive the benefits (or the penalties) of enemy commander effects until they move out of range. An enemy commander within 6 squares has its commander effect suppressed until it moves out of range. (It still counts as a commander.)

Suppressive Fire Text:
Enemies hit by this character cannot benefit from commander effects and if it is a commander, its commander effect is suppressed for the rest of the round.

If it's just that Commander who cannot be suppressed while his Commander Effect can be then DL isn't very helpful.
I would understand if Suppressive Fire were a special case, but I'm not seeing it. HELP!

Per Sithborg above, the CE of a commander with DL cannot be suppressed, period.

Disciplined Leader is a trump-card type ability, and so should be and has been used sparingly.

Sorry Bryan about the incorrect ruling.

On the drive home, I realized that it was incorrect.

No problem, it's not something that comes up that often and it wasn't very significant in that game.
I just needed to know for sure how it works.
