Can this character collect gambit? Since it HAS to be in the middle of the map, it would seem he would. Otherwise normal emplacement would've worked? He doesn't have Force Spirit, but he also can't be targeted. Is there an officail rule on this somewhere?

He can't. It should have been in the glossary, but I see there isn't an entry. I'll see if I can nudge swinefeld into adding it. He's like a Force Spirit, and the fact that spirits can't collect gambit is also in their glossary.
(Design note: He has to be in the middle of the map so that you can't just park him in the back to collect his Force points.)
