When a living Bodyguard uses it's SA to take the damage of a critical hit to a Droid character, he only takes normal damage (not the doubled base damage of the critical hit), right?

Yeah. I believe damage is checked for the targeted character, and THEN bodyguard comes into play. So likewise, a Droid bodyguard would take double damage if taking a crit for a living character.

correct.
You determine the amount of damage the original guy was going to take, then the bodyguard takes that much.
So if I use a guy with Ion gun and am shooting a droid, and you are BG with a human BG, the Human BG still takes the extra ion gun damage.
And like you stated. If you crit a droid, and a living character takes the damage with BG, they only take the normal damage (not the double damage from the crit)

So what about damage reduction 10? If the guy was going to take 20, but he would take 10 because damage reduction would prevent 10, does the BG take 10?

No. Damage reduction abilities like DR10 happen after bodyguard decisions are made. That makes a bodyguard with damage reduction extra useful. http://swmgamers.com/SWM/Rules/ResolvingEffects.html
