Vset 15 is all out there now. I guess the "official" release date is still February 1, but it doesn't really matter since I'm pretty sure there aren't any official events scheduled between now and then. And unofficially - feel free to use them! Hopefully the cards will be in our hands sooner than later.

Early in the design process, Set 15 turned to the idea of promoting "mixed" squad types. Often, you have commanders that boost a particular type of unit so to get the most out of the squad you're using as many similar units as you can. This set tries to turn that on its head by promoting the mixing of two or more different types of units. The set title, "Unexpected Allies", alludes to that design idea. This idea shows up on several pieces. The subset works toward the same principle.

* Wookiee Commander: mixing Jedi and Wookiees
* Dark Disciple: a low-cost non-Unique that boosts high-cost Uniques
* Vitiate: mixing Uniques and non-Uniques. Also, Environment Manipulation punishes squads that are completely reliant on one ability
* OOM Security Battle Droid: non-Unique that boosts Uniques
* Rogue One Marine: non-Unique that synergizes with Uniques
* Resistance Commando: non-Unique boosted by Uniques
* Nico Okarr: non-Force user with movement breaker when with Force users
* Shaak Ti: gets good when mixed with Order 66 allies
* Grievous: mixing various types of Battle Droids
* Kalani: mixing living and non-living allies

Not even half the pieces, but enough for a noticeable trend.

The subset was designed to be useful as a balanced 3vs3 battle that could be used for teaching. As such, it includes all of the basics of the game: shooting, Force points, commander effects, Double, Twin, Greater Mobile Attack, saves, targeting rules, etc. But nothing too complicated (at least nothing too complicated that comes into play during the 3vs3 game). It's Republic vs Separatist because those two factions didn't get many pieces the past few sets. As you've probably noticed, all 6 characters have the nickname "Republic Hero" or "Separatist Hero", which goes hand in hand with the subset name: "Heroes on Both Sides".

From the community request thread, all of the top 4 requests made it into the set (Nico, Kol, Goran, Vader).

I hope you're all able to enjoy the set. We put a lot of work into it.

In terms of power level, most of the set is targeted to being slightly below Tier 1, with the expectation that we will miss on a good number of them, so that some end up being Tier 2 but some end up at Tier 1. A few pieces were targeted to Tier 1 to start with.
