Homicidal Surgery 30 (Replaces attacks: touch; deal 30 damage to a living character. An allied character can instead remove 30 damage from itself with a save of 6.)

Does the "can" mean the save is optional for an ally who is subject to this ability, and the ally may just take 30dmg with no save?

I know saves are usually non-optional as per the glossary but from the wording I thought this might be a different case.

Read it slow and it will click.

Is saying that you CAN choose an Ally, but if you choose that Ally, you must make a save of 6.

The save us not optional

You said this already. I'm looking for an official answer, not your opinion. Reading the ability literally I don't reach the same conclusion as you. However, the fact that saves in this game tend to be non-optional has some bearing on the interpretation of this ability.

I'm not giving you an opinion, I'm giving you a fact. But you can wait for someone to verify that I am right. This happens often with non believers :)

Saves
Q: Can a character voluntarily fail a save?

A: No. Although the text of some special abilities and Force powers uses the word "can," the affected character must save against that effect.

Replaces attacks: touch; deal 30 damage to a living character. An allied character can instead remove 30 damage from itself with a save of 6.)

To break it down for you, start at the second sentence.

" An allied can instead remove damage". This is where your word can come into play. Because you CAN do this. Now, continuing on. With a save of 6.

So if you want to remove damage, which is something you CAN do, you just make a save of 6, or take the damage. No where does it indicate the save being optional.

You have to misread the entire sentience and ability in order to get that opinion.

But trust me dear Gandalf. You MUST makes the save

You were the one squawking? And you were the one giving opinions?

I gave you facts, and because it's me, you refused to believe it. So I accept your apology, and in the future, know that I'm always right.

Sincerely
The Prophet
