(The year before was my original Les Femmes Fatales squad. It had Emperor Palpatine on Throne instead of Mara Jade HoJ and 1 of the Rodian Brutes.)

Ha yes Swinefeld! Only Talon squad there and I am sure no one thought Vornskrs as I have never seen them played. I like them because they are not savage and the little ones (1) can go 8 on Talon's free move and then charge 16 for a big hit and maybe activation. It has a little of everything.

Vornskrs were tough and only a missed attack by morrigan let me ease by mike in the swiss.

Interesting notes -
4/6 of the top 6 featured at least 1 key piece that debuted in the last year (set 14 or 15) as well as 7th place.
Almost exactly 1/2 of the whole field featured one or more as well.
The squad that went undefeated in Swiss featured a squad whose latest piece came out 4 years ago
So, new stuff can compete, and old stuff still can too.

So, new stuff can compete, and old stuff still can too. What new stuff actually had a chance though? This is starting to crack me up a bit. How many times do those squads beat daala? How many times do they beat thrawn? Those are really the only questions that matter right now. What can actually compete? I didn't see any squad that can beat daala tbh

Agreed Daala is, has always been, and will always be an issue. Yodabuck would have had the best chance, but it still would have been tough.
As to what actually showed up -
Both OR squads were on the opposite side of the bracket from my Thrawn squad. I would really struggle against those.
TJ's OR barely lost by a hair to Jason's Imps, or else we might well be looking at an OR champion featuring 2 major new pieces (Wookiee Commander and Ven Zallow).

Nah - it wasn't that close. I had a couple bad plays that made it not-so-close. If I played those right it might have been 50/50 but he probably still had the edge even then.

Yet it didn't.
People are refusing see that daala and thrawn are simply better suited for competition than any other squads right now.
There is nothing anyone had going recently that can compete as well as those two can.
This has been the norm for many many years.
These words "can compete" do not mean anything. They are empty until they are filled with actual results.
Competing at a tournament with other not highest tier squads Is not going to show you anything.
My suggestion is this: Someone host a vassal tournament where everyone brings the absolute best squad they can to find the actual best squads.
This should be gencon but people keep bringing not highest tier stuff to "have a good time". My point is that the best stuff should be the fun stuff so let's determine the best stuff and then evaluate if it is fun. If it isn't designers or balance team should step in and fix the game.
But like I have said multiple times. Competing and actually having a chance at winning are two way different things.
When the difference between #1 and #2 is an easy 3 point win then their is a problem balance or with the tournament.
The nba a great example. The warriors easily won the national championship this year. They had a hard match up against the rockets and no one else has a chance.
This is unbalanced.
I think there should always be a top 8 in gencon help ensure that squads face off assassination the to different types of squads.
But right now if we were to all play the best of best squads their should be 3 or 4 possible squad types hitting 2 or 3 factions. The rest are meaningless.
What are leaders doing to change that is my biggest question. I firmly believe the game would be much better off when we make things powerful enough to consistently beat the current top tier. I think most people agree
