I'm no lawyer, but I was playing the game and close to the process when the V sets started. The reason the creators of the Vsets weren't sued by the copyright holding companies was that no profit was made in the creation and dispersal of the cards. I'm not sure that this doesn't constitute a copyright violation by that company.
