I'm looking to organize a 4-player Vassal tournament with the following "Squad Swap" format. Two chances to win:
=== This will be a 4-player, 2-round tournament. Two people will win: one person will be the squadbuilding winner and different person will be the winning player.
Each player builds a squad as usual.
In round 1, players are randomly paired as usual, but each player uses their opponent's squad. So you will play against the squad you built.
In round 2, the winning players from each match take the winning squads to the top table and play each other, but those two players swap squads before they play. Likewise, the losing players take the losing squads to the bottom table and play each other, but they swap squads for the second round.
This results in a winning player (the player who won their games in both the first and second rounds). And it results in a winning squadbuilder (whoever built the overall winning squad). These will necessarily be different players since the winning squadbuilder will have lost to their own squad in round one. You'll get to know 3 squads during the tournament: the one you build and the two you play. ===
I don't have a date in mind, but it would be a 3 hour or less, two-round tournament from 9pm-midnight EDT some evening. Send me a PM if you're interested and once I find 3 other players we'll try to find an evening that works for everyone.

Bump.
We are up to 3 players now. Looking for one more. We'll be playing on a Friday or Saturday (sorry, Tim). We'll settle on an exact date once we have a 4th player.

i'd be interested in doing this. Been wanting to play the new stuff from V-set 20, so hopefully some squads contain those. =)
Friday night would be preferable for me. The start time is kinda late for me but doable. is it possible to start 1/2 hour earlier? would make my wife happier.....

Winning players are supposed to post the play reports (if they want). I'm off the hook for this tournament.

I'm a bit rusty (both in play and recaps) but I'll do my best.
Round 1 vs Flying Arrow. I built Frog Squad so FA takes that and I get Night of the Hutt. As I say its been a bit so I do my best to familiarize myself with everything happening. I win map roll so we take Gangster's Hideout and I get the left side. I split up my squad and take most of it toward the center, and Talia and a Hunter down the hall. FA charges forward with about everyone and sets up some doors, and gets gambit with Yoda. In the hideout there is a decently long LOS from the bottom of one wall up through the center and I put a Hunter there to start taking shots at folks. All of the Jedi have a hard time deflecting shots because of plasma bolt and I start whittling folks down. I certainly made some sloppy play errors in this first match due to my unfamiliarity with the squad and shaking the cobwebs out (its been maybe a year since I've played? Possibly more...) but the fact that I pulled it out I think shows the strength in TJ's squad building. This thing is a beast, if you can set up well and cannon shot Assaj and a Hunter, its good night to some pieces, and in the next match Laura used Invisibility potion so cleverly and I certainly squandered my limited using of it here. We trade a few pieces back and forth and TJ is getting gambit, but in the end I get some really lucky parry rolls and TJ misses some crucial hits for me to come out on top.
Round 2! I play UrbanShmi this round and she brings Merciless Death, so we swap squads. Immediately off the bat I'm worried because 1) I just played this squad I know its good, and 2, I now have a shooter squad and the Nightsisters are cloaked. We slowly move to the center and Laura gets gambit early on. on my first attack the Saboteur rolls a 1 and joins the other squad. Greeeeeaat. Good start. From here its a back and forth, but once again I'm getting some really lucky evade, parry, and beskar rolls and Laura is having a hard time making things stick, whereas my Unique shooters are taking down some pieces. We get to time and Laura concedes. As mentioned above I want to say how well she used Invisibility Potion. Like I was seeing the uses of it as I went along in Round 1, but in Round 2, everytime she used it I was like "well...there goes that plan."
I think both final squads were really something, I'd be interested to see how they continue to fare in the future! Thank you to everyone who played and hope some more folks can join us next time!
