With Yo'Gand, is the Dovin Basal a "free" piece like the goofy Jawa that lets you drop a "free" droid??

I believe the key word here is “in”. That implies the piece is already in the squad and you’re effectively just moving it adjacent to Yo’Gand. Much like how the Summon ability works.

The first time I played Yo'gand I thought it created a free 'reinforcement'-like piece, but that's not correct.
If you have no DBKeeper in your original squad, then that ability simply has no effect.
