If you take it into your squad, its allies are the characters in your squad.
Since it is immune to damage from allies, that means you can't claim it and then do a Force Repulse (for example) to kill it. Eventually, you will kill an enemy. Whenever that happens, your opponent has an opportunity to reclaim the Deep Cover piece.
