A situation that came up last night:

Exar Kun uses Transfer Essence to kill a Kel Dor Bounty Hunter, thus detonating the Self Destruct 40 of the Kel Dor to inflict 40 damage on the poor sap that's adjacent to it and replacing it with Exar himself, ready to dish out a triple attack.

Ouch.

But what were to happen if there was another Kel Dor adjacent to the first? Obviously the aforementioned "poor sap" takes a total of 80 Self Destruct damage, but does Exar take any? I checked the Resolving Effects order of operations and it wasn't clear, particularly because it's not entirely clear when Exar arrives relative to when you resolve the Self Destruct 40 of the adjacent (the NON Transfer Essence victim) Kel Dor.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

I do not think that Exar would take any damage as the selfdestruct takes place when the character is defeated, and the kel dors would both be defeated BEFORE Kun transfers to their space.

You would fully resolve all actions generated by the target character being defeated before transferring Exar in.

In your example, Exar would take 0 damage as he would not transfer in until both Self Destructs are fully resolved.

I believe that once you replace your 1st Kel-Dor for Transfer Essence, the effect of Self-Destruct has to resolve first before Exar occupies your Kel-Dor's defeated space. Which means, your Kel-Dor would Self-Destruct (from Exar's TE), then triggers the adjacent Kel-Dor to Self-destruct before Exar enters... simultaneous effects happen first before the effect resolves.

Look at it like this, you resolve one situation at a time. So transfer essence would take place after all other actions are finished that TE created. So Keldor dying from Transfer Essence would self destruct, 1, the next action would have to be what the self destruct is going to effect, so another kel dor effected would also self destruct being defeated, & any characters within these abilities that would be effected will be effected, & once all situations are resolved one at a time, then Exar can finally land in the original spot that he essenced too..
