I want to be sure about this: If a character with bodyguard absorbs more damage than they have hit points, does the remainder of the damage get splashed onto the original target? This hasn't come up in a game or anything, it's just something I thought of right now. Specifically thinking about Supreme Chancellor Palpatine cackling as younglings are slaughtered all around him.

Nope, they take the full damage, since the damage is not applied seperately to begin with. If they take more than their HPs, they are defeated, just like a normal attack.

Thanks. That's what I figured but I wanted to be sure.

Ah, but can a bodyguard bodyguard a bodyguard, who in turn is bodyguarding a bodyguard?

Because when a Bodyguard takes the damage for the target, they are not being hit by an attack.
