Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not a fan of politics...I hope the SWM community can come together to preserve a game we all enjoy.

Honestly, it isn't that much of an argument. It's dahatchetjeedi claiming that he has some magic bullet solution that will make new minis pour out of sky from rainbows like a Skittles commercial when he obviously does not.

What other company would pick this game up? Games Workshop? Not their style whatsoever. Some small board game company? No way they can afford the license. Wizkids? Unlikely, seeing as how they went out of business last year, just got acquired, and are trying to resurrect Heroclix. And if past events are any guide, if another company did pick the game up, they would fundamentally change it, the same way Wizards turned the popular Star Wars CCG into the utter failure of Star Wars TCG by canceling all of the existing cards and changing every game mechanic.

It is up to us, and there is no miracle solution. We just need to come up with the best that we can. Refusing to contribute anything except bizarre claims of having a secret plant to "rescue" the game is not the path to victory.

Well put greentime.

So ive just spent 30 minutes of my time reading this entire thread. I've seen two negative nancy's in this entire thing (you know who you are). Dean got to the top because he loves the game, plays often, and has beaten just about everyone multiple times. "Connections" has nothing to do with why someone is good at a game. If Dean owned the lisence for the game would that make him auto-win every game he played? of course not.

For christs sake leave the guy alone. WOTC has said "screw you guys" cartman style to the game and this guy has offered to keep it alive and all you give him is grief over it.

Why don't we all just see what happens in upcoming months, before we get crazy about the whole thing? Nothing is ever 100%, and things can change. Getting all worked up and frazzled isn't going to accomplish anything..

You should have invested an hour of your time then and read EVERYTHING.
I'm trying my Darndest to get people on board with all of this, because ALL of us are the only ones that can keep this thing going.
Don't come on here talking about negative Nancys if your going to be one yourself.
I support Dean and the rest of the guys with this project.
But I will not be badgered by anyone who disagrees with my opinion or is frustrated with my questions.
Get the full scoop before you come on here to run your mouth and defend people. No one needs defending, just the game.

I have to actually agree some with dahatchetjeedi. It does seem like you people are rushing into virtual sets to quickly. But I also realize that most of this is just talk. I think there will be plenty of time for an announcement about another company taking over before the first Vset is released. I would also prefer to have the set ready to go if no other company is taking over than to have to wait for all the stats to be created.

BS1 is right. We, as a community, need to keep current players, and intersst new players. Divisiveness doesn't help either.

Fundamentally, this is a local issue. If everyone in your local community knows that, every week, there are going to be people with maps and dice and figures at the store, ready to play, the game will live on. We play this game because it is fun, but also because it is a good reason to hang out with people we like. Keeping people in the game is not done by having Dean post passionate speeches on the Internet; it's done by talking with your friends and encouraging them to keep playing, by showing up at the LGS, and by pitching the game to people who are interested.

This is the probably the best post I have read in the entire thread to this point (not counting the topic starter of course). Unless we all plan to do most of our gaming on Vassal, this is where our focus should be for the next 8 months or so... BlooMilk

I have to agree with Swinefeld, and Greentime. Ultimately this becomes a local issue and really from the things I've read over the past years it always has been. Meaning that most games are played outside of DCI and there have always been local rules (IE: Korriban being legal, GOWK not being banned, mass battle and scenarios etc.). It's going to be up to each individual group on whether or not the game continues and really how it continues.

As far as Vsets go, that is counter productive to getting another company to pick up the game.
No company wants that kind of work load on their plate as soon as they pick a game up.

No company can pick up the game, as it is, without obtaining both the content (Star Wars) and the mechanics (the d20 system). Look closely at the copyright notice for the game. There are two companies listed there.

People have made virtual sets and customs for years while Wizards was making the game. (I seem to recall a certain web site posting an entire vset last spring as a prank) Having a community express a continued interest by making customs would only encourage the already highly unlikely relaunch of the game.

I have been advised to inform you all that the original idea I had set well in motion is not going to work because it is evident that someone is going to ruin the possibilities of new plastic minis by the creation of "sanctioned vsets".

That's a load of garbage. "This game is too popular! We can't sell something fans are so avid about!"

And this thread has outlived it's usefulness. I know emotions are running high, but please, don't feed the trolls.
