Map was ravaged base

Took this to a 6-1 first place finish on Saturday in the Chicago regional. Losing to a higher activation Lancer squad run by Timmerb123.

The squad is a great example of why the NR is so tough at the moment. Ganner takes them to the next level by adding every round levitate as well as his other tricks (stealth, FP2, sweep). Mara being levitated is nastyness whether it happens beginning of the round or the end of the round. The idea is to get a lead using mara, watch her die and then leviatate a charged Anakin to Unleash the Force to begin (or end) the mop up. Han is a pretty crucial piece with his NTMTO and disruptive really hamperring thrawn and swap squads but also allowing the use of MTB without fear of the opponent using it. However, Han also provides a significant amount of power to the squad and can really pressure opponents tech if the expose themselves. Its not unusual to levitate Han into a group of pieces under the influence of commander effects (evade, SS, greater mobile). Gha allows the inclusion of 2 point mice which you can bring 10 in for a total activation count of 19 but 15 if you want to run an MTB. Timmerb123 uses this tactic a lot and its where I got the idea from. Saying that i never used the MTB as i was content positioning my pieces to get early round levitate assaults from a reasonably safe distance. Anakin, while in for his UtF, also provides mop up in the form of FP2 which compliments Ganners FP2. Even with Han and Mara defeated, Ganner and Anakin make a formidable endgame duo. Anakin is a good addition to the squad adding a significant source of power output that IMO exceeds whatever Wedge can bring in for the same cost. His main drawback is his 50 hp so you really need to be careful with his positioning until your opponent has had a large amount of his dmg potential defeated.

Was Timmer's squad the only lancer squad there? And would you consider bringing in a cheap unique piece to use instead of killing Mara if you didn't need the extra activations?

i believe Timmers lancer was the only one there and his build is about the only lancer build i fear because it has so many activations and runs San Hill which means i cant use an MTB against it.

Anyway, my reinforcements changed across several games but when i think i need Mara to do a bit more than one or two assaults i usually bring in a felucian to set off UtF (you need a force user to die to trigger it, not a unique). The Felucians are actually pretty cool pieces at the moment in this meta having parry and a force point. With this build i can bring in a felucian, and r7 and 3 mice; or 2 x felucians and 2 uggies.
I brought a felucian in 2 games but in neither game did they die to set off teh UTF, its actaully hard to get them killed when your opponent knows what its really there for. As a result of this they can make themselves an enjoyable nusciance.

Gha Nacht really increases the value of Lobot by making droids cheaper. You can get up to 10 activations with lobot

How would you deal with a lancer squad? You don't have Riposte; does the Levitation give you the reach needed to kill the lancer?

Well he lost to the lancer.

Disruptive helps, and the range helps you try to chase it down, but the lancer still is likely to come out on top against this. That's just part of the deal with anything in 200. You have good match ups, and try to out play your opponent in the bad ones.

I have always wondered how this tactic would play out. Unfortunately, I don't own enough mouse droides :(

Any comments on this squad's performance against GOWK ?

Correct me if I am wrong Deri but I think this squad has a fairly good matchup against most lancer squads with the MTB being the equalizer. Outactivate with Dodonna set up mara for the assault to kill the lancer (or Grevious). You always have greater mobile Cunning from Han so you need a pair of 11s to deal with Lancer (or IG86s) as well. Although I am not sure that the Lancer is the be all end all squad. It is very good in the right meta but right now the meta is against it (All those Vader's and NR disruptive) it is so hard to hide the lancer and keep it safe and once the Lancer goes down the lancer player is in trouble. Even trading the Lancer for Mara wouldn't be enough I don't think as I am not sure that the Lancer support can take out Han, Ganner, and Anakin. Also I don't think that you need to be as prepared for the lancer as much as in past metas. Only 1 squad out of 19 in Chicago and that ran by Tim who has been running it for a long time (ie he would probably play it even if he knew every other squad would be anti lancer).

Just my 2 cents.

A succinct evaluation of the rock/paper/scissors of the top meta

No GOWK to be seen at regionals but strategy would be to isolate and destroy support leaving Anakin and Ganner to push GOWK to death in 3 rounds.
The squad has a lot more than just the levitation assault trick. Levitation is an excellent defensive ability as is FP2. Han can snake override pieces and Uggies and Mara can be content to shoot from a far if running in is not going to result in a net gain of points/position.

I agree the majority of your post.
If i can outactivate the lancer then its really not a problem for the squad. The fact of the matter though is that tims build (which i believe to be close to the optimum lancer build) has one more which means you must play with great care against it and get the right map/side.
If you can trade mara for the lanced then you should have good chances even if they have a couple of IG's.
