If you are looking for a little twist in your casual play try flipping the take10 from the target and putting it on the attacker. Basically subtract 10 from everyones defense and add it to their attack. You now have a static attack rating and the defender rolls the D20 to avoid the hit and the crits come on those pesky 1 rolls.

If you don't mind extra dice rolls for added fate, minus 10 from all defenses and have the attacker and defender both roll. However, you'll have to come to an agreement on what constitutes a crit with this method (eg attack beats def by 10+) and there are no auto hits and misses.

The final alternate is totally diceless. Add 10 to all attacks. It becomes much more strategic as you always know who will hit who and can't. Use tokens for saves. Everyone starts with one. You have a token you make your save. Remove the token. Fail next save, regain token.

That is an interesting idea. I like the multiple saves aspect. Kinda like Zombes!
