Hello all, I was recently introduced to this game, and absolutely love it. And, since I enjoy working my creative side, I decided to make some custom characters. If someone could please help me with the costing and balance, I would be much obliged.

When I first look at these figures I see that their defenses are ridiculously low. Han is at 12 (16 in cover) Grievous at 15 (19 in cover). That seems very low considering their cost and the fact that they have no defensive capabilities.

I would change the wording in Han shot first to include within line of sight. He cant just shoot something he can't see.

Jedi Militia is awesome love the idea well rounded, I would still bump up the Def to a 17 or 18 and maybe add deflect.

Tie Mauler - Low defense, needs mounted weapon and damage reduction 10. Lose rigid that no longer applies anyways. Up def to a 17 or so and add twin attack seeing how it does have 2 laser canons.

Not bad at all. Like the custom abilities.ThumbsUp

I agree these defenses are abnormally low for the cost and even the Hit points but the abilities are nice and the ideas I would just up the D and the hp on most of these.

I would probably lower the cost of jedi militia master, it's a little over priced. Or maybe give it another force points and some abilities?

Tie mauler's pretty interesting, especially because you can field multiples like in Empire at War BigGrin

I think its about time Grievous got twin, since he always seemed to run up and strike quickly.

Don't constrain yourself to existing abilities. Feel free to make your own abilities (which you are already pretty good at), instead of using galloping attack or bounty hunter to get the desired effect

All right, thanks for the help. I changed the characters as suggested. If I could get a little more help with balance, I also had a few stranger ideas.

Shield Generator
Fringe
Cost 30
HP 100
Def 0
Atk 0
Dmg 0
Shields 3, Emplacement
CE: Allies within 6 squares gain shields 2

Sarlaac
Fringe
Cost 15
HP 40
Def 18
Atk 12
Dmg 20
Emplacement, Melee, Devour- If this character rolls a natural 20 or an adjacent enemy rolls a natural 1, defeat all adjacent enemies

Colonel Dac Axfow
Imperial
Cost 20
HP 50
Def 17
Atk 7
Dmg 10
Unique
CE: Followers gain Intuition and Speed 3

Bothan Spy
Fringe
Cost 7
HP 10
Def 12
Atk 7
Dmg 10
Stealth, Phasing fire- This character can fire through doors

The issue I have with this piece is the Force powers. The original Grievous characters had a Force point because I suspect the designers wanted him to be a little more versatile. They later realized that they could do that through the use of Special Abilities.

Quote:

Han, Master Bounty Hunter
Fringe
Cost 43
HP 80
Def 16
Atk 10
Dmg 20
Unique, Cunning attack, Bounty hunter +4, Han shot first- During setup, after seeing all squads, this character can attack one unit in line of sight

Another puzzler as I don't remember Han being a bounty hunter to begin with, let alone a master bounty hunter. As is, I'd say he's still over costed by about 15 points with only one attack and no Accurate Shot. Compare to Han RH to see what I mean.

Quote:

Jedi Militia Master
Old Republic
Cost 37
HP 60
Def 17
Atk 8
Dmg 20
Melee, Stealth
Force 2
Lightsaber Deflect
CE: Allied characters without a force rating gain Lightsaber

Bit confused by this piece. Is it Lightsaber +10 this character is giving out? Why to non-force users? Also, 1 attack, minimal force powers and poor stats for 37 points? Not likely that many people would play this piece. Compare to Jedi Consular who costs 16 Points.

Sheild generator needs a Defense rating...I would do something like this Defense - 20 and shields 2 (only for non adjacent enemies)

Sarlaac is really a neat idea. Might want to give it something else that possibly does what AT-AT does and activates a few times in a round. This will drive the cost up though. Axfow is way undercosted if he gives out intuition.

Going back to the originals, the need somee beefy-ness to them. Han is lacking still even with the Defense boost. try something like this:

Han, Master Bounty Hunter
Fringe
Cost 43
HP 80
Def 18
Atk 10
Dmg 20
Unique, Accurate Shot, Cunning attack, Bounty hunter +4, Evade, Han shot first (This character may attack one unique enemy within line of sight immediately after setup or after the first round is completed, whichever comes first. This ability can only be used once.)

How about Simplifying it to (once per skirmish, before initiative is rolled this character may make an immediate attack against a unique enemy within line of sight) sure it's not limited to the first round, but it's still limited to one time use.

Yea that sounds good. I couldn't think of the right wording for it.
