I've been digging around for a direct reference to this question, and so far I haven't found one, so I'll throw it out here... my apologies if this is covered somewhere. BlooMilk

Quote:
Bombad Gungan: Whenever this character is targeted by an enemy, this character must attempt a save of 11; the save is not optional. On a failure, the attack is resolved normally against it. On a successful save, the attack is redirected to another character of your choice (ally or enemy) within 6 squares, even if it would not normally be a legal target (for example, the attacker could end up hitting itself). If no other character is within 6 squares, the attack has no effect. Make the save to redirect the attack before the attacker makes its attack roll.

I'm assuming that in order to fully resolve Bombad and continue the process, you must also declare which character(s) the (now non-targeted) attack/ability is affecting. However the wording of Bombad only makes reference to making the save before the attack is rolled (or ability used).

So just to be sure, my question is:

Can you declare which character will be affected after seeing the results of the attack roll?

To answer you question, no you cannot. Before ANY attack rolls are made, Jar Jar must make his Bombad save. If he does make his save, than the person who's squad JJB is in must choose a different character within 6 squares of himself. When JJB chooses a new target, it can be anyone (cloaked, super stealth, etc).

Now, the thing I cannot remeber is what happens when JJB uses Bombad Gungan to redirect someone elses attack to a diplomat. I want to say the attack is wasted as long as the attacker can see a non-diplomat, but not 100% sure. Anyways, hope I helped out some. Cheers!

Sincerely,

Bombad Gungan gets around many abilities that prevent attacks. So yes, you can redirect an attack to an active Diplomat, and the attack will still happen.

@Jester007 - thanks for your answer. The wording was hanging me up a bit, but looking at it again it's obvious. You have to determine bonuses and all that before making the attack. Basic stuff. RollEyes

There goes another another crazy combo idea into the trash, lol.

@Sithborg: Bombad Gungan may get around being able to target a Diplomat, but what about the attack roll itself? Normally, a figure cannot make an AOO on a Diplomat. This is because it is still an attack; similar to how Bombad ingores targeting rules. But unless you can get around the 2nd half of Diplomat, how will Jar Jar allow someone to be able to a Diplomat?

@Jester - From the FAQ - now that Holocron is back up:

FAQ wrote:
Q: Does Bombad Gungan allow you to attack a character you can't normally attack, like a character 6 squares away with a melee attack, or a Diplomat when you can see an enemy non-Diplomat?

A: Yes.

As to the how? part... one of my favorite Nickname quotes (from WotC):

Nickname wrote:
Bombad is designed to unpredictably drop an anvil on anyone's head if they get near Jar Jar.

Thanks for the clarification swinefeld; and to you Sithborg for you help. I wasn't saying you were wrong, I was just trying to figure out what the thought process of why Bombad Gungan worked against Diplomats. Silly me, tricks are for Jar Jar.

Sincerely,
