There has been some confusion on this so I will just ask and hopefully a final decision will be determined.
Can Chewbacca, Enraged wookie be in a republic squad VIA Merumeru?

Yes. This is covered in the FAQ. Much like San like abilities, Meremeru affects your squad building options, not Chewie direcetly.

I have a different question about Savage. I know that Savage characters are not affected by CEs. What if a Savage character is in the same squad as, and within six squares of, another character with Empathy (allies within six squares lose Savage)? Is the Savage character, now without Savage, subject to CEs?
