I have watched this several times and I can't determine how much of this is recovered and how much is reconstructed. The Vader lines sound cut-and-paste from ESB. His walk-on (hallway to lift to meditation chamber) is in quick cuts which don't flow. We don't see Luke's face, just a cleft chin. It's odd.

It's almost set up to compare him to the Emporer. When I 1st saw it at CV, I thought it was the Emporer reading Vaders thoughts, But at the end of the clip, You clearly can decern that it is Luke.

New footage is neat, but I was expecting a longer clip than that. Not worth all the cheers anyway.

This was originally supposed to be Luke's first scene in ROTJ. It fits to complete his training by building his own lightsaber in Ben's house while reconciling the fact Vader is his father. The dark cloak and everything hint at the dark side which he dabbles with throughout the movie right up until he throws that same lightsaber away in his big duel and embraces his destiny as a Jedi. Luke's training is mostly missing from the movies and this one tidbit helps set up where he is when he enters Jabba's palace and how far he has come.

As for the applause, some of it is the environment. Many of the audience were in line all night to get into the main stage. We were there at 5am and just got in. Six hours of waiting in line with little sleep in the charged fandom environment is something that does not come across on video.

I'll be Honest, I thought it was Awesome. For years there have been reports of these lost scenes but nobody could confirm them. A similar scene appeared in the ROTJ RAdio Drama. These were awesome and Being there and seeing it in person was a great experience. I was 9 when this movie came out, So I remember so much about seeing it for the 1st time in the theater. Seeing the trailer brought me back!!! It was Aewsome!
