We played on them last night.
I really enjoyed Badlands. The wall layout had the battle spread all over the map. I think this map will get a lot of play.
Deep Caverns wasn't quite as great. It was as struggle to get through the right side center to the fight with all the Difficult Terrain and that slowed down round 1 and 2 to a crawl. And the center, when I finally got there was a real kill-zone for my mostly melee squad as I tried to rush from the rivers against a ranged opponent who was set up and waiting. But I'm probably a bit biased from a single game where I got slaughtered. :P We'll give it another try or two. Maybe try ignoring difficult terrain altogether for casual skirmish play.

Ignoring difficult terrain sounds like a good idea for casual play. I'd also suggest treating the squares obscured with waterfall mist with a house rule that lets them provides cover, concealment, or even block line of sight.
And honestly, Deep Caverns was never really fine-tuned for tournament-style play. There are other ways to approach it that might make it more competitive, but the game you describe sounds pretty typical of the outcome I would sort of expect. Badlands was tailored to the competitive skirmish game; Deep Caverns, not so much. (I think it could be competitive under the right circumstances, but it's not balanced enough for a ranked game.)
Thanks for the play report, NickName!
